The high profile cases of tomfoolery by athletes obscures the many cases of athletes taking their paychecks and doing very good things in their home communities (these are not reported). A friend of mine from U of O played a few years in the NFL and during that time he personally, out of pocket, with no fanfare funded two organizations that worked with at risk youth in his hometown. And he is the only one.
