My coworker is Syrian (Arab and very fair) and yesterday I met his wife who is Somalian and she is light with Arab features and long silky hair. So you're right. Not all Africans are dark.. At least not today because several hundred years ago there was heavy colonization in various countries in africa which resorted in of course race mixing. So although the ancient somalians and Ethiopians were dark, the ones of today vary in complexion.
