: MediaTakeOut.com just received word of a CRAZY report. According to reports, a California father added his 13 year old son to his cell phone, and dude ran up the phone bill to nearly $22,000.
Here's what happened. The father thought he was being slick by putting his son on the BASIC plan for $50. He figured that by not giving his son the unlimited phone and data plan, that would stop his son from overusing the phone.
But HE THOUGHT WRONG!!! The 13 year old used the phone like crazy, downloading all kinds of songs and stuff practically 24/7.
The end result. The father went over his data by a million and a half kilobytes, amounting to $22,000.
UNLIMITED PLANS ARE $100 A MONTH. SO $1200 A YEAR. AND $22000 DIVIDED BY $1200 IS 18.3. SO THATS 18 YRS AND 4 MONTHS OF CELLPHONE BILLS. LMAO! SERVES HIM RIGHT FOR BEING CHEAP. I WOULD STILL WHIP THAT KIDS @#$ THOUGH. 13YR OLD *** HAVE CELLPHONES...*** I DIDNT. WHAT THEY NEED CELLPHONES FOR? INCASE OF AN EMERGENCY???!! GIVE EM A WHISTLE!!!!
Here is the story HAYWARD, Calif.—A 13-year-old boy was probably in hot water with his father after running up a cell phone bill of nearly $22,000.
Ted Estarija says he was expecting his bill to be higher this month after adding his son to his plan, but wasn't expecting a bill of $21,917 in data usage charges.
The Hayward man says his Verizon Wireless bill soared after his son apparently downloaded about 1.4 million kilobytes of data last month.
His plan didn't cover data usage, so he was charged by the megabyte.
Estarija says after the first media reports, Verizon said they would credit his account for the entire amount.
He has also suspended his son's account.
A spokeswoman for Verizon says the company investigates cases with exceptionally large bills
Thats why I'm pre-paid now. Sprint & T-mobile tried to get me on that data sh!t. When I had sprint in '05 - '06 I got a bill for $331.00 cuz they calim I was using the internet when I never even had internet and I got charged 1 cent per kilobit and Sprint still ain't gettin dat money. I am happier now that I got Virgin Mobile.
Whaaaat?! That's ridiculous, like I want to beat the son myself - he's 13 and doesn't know you have to basically pay for everything you do on a cell phone? Where did they come from - an Amish farm?!
I think kids SHOULD have cell phones - I got my first cell phone at 11. It was for emergencies. I didn't start texting till I was 14. But at 11 I barely TOUCHED my phone in fear of hiking up the phone bill. This year alone though my highest bills were $400 and $300 = $700 for Jan and Feb - needless to say my mom was not happy and refused to pay it right away so I had no cell phone for a month
If I was the the father I would sue the cell phone provider he made the contractual agreement with, because that is ridiculous that could happen. I even thought that there was some law in place to stop that kind of abuse and protect the company as well as the person who pays the bill by alerting them to to UNUSUAL ACTIVITY. That kid wouldn't get off the hook so easy either! 4u2.com
That's why you continuosly check up on them. You can't give a 13 year old that much freedom. If the kid had proper parenting this would not have happened. I don't understand parents these days. Some kids maybe mature but you have to remember they are children and no matter how mature they maybe, they are going to do stupid ***.
Now they need to hush up, pay the bill, and start teaching the boy some personal responsibility.
