: MediaTakeOut.com is sad to report that "Dr Death" Steve Williams has passed away. Steve started off his career in 1979 wrestling in the' MidSouth Wrestling Federation. He formed a team with Ted DiBiase, and feuded with Eddie Gilbert, and was one of a few number of wrestlers who got an early push when MidSouth Wrestling was bought by Jim Crockett and renamed Universal Wrestling Federation.
Williams had stints in both WWE and WCW, becoming WCW World Tag Team Champions with Terry Gordy.
Williams is reported to have died from throat cancer. May he rest in peace.
Steve 'Dr. Death' Williams was one of the legitimate tough guys of wrestling. A former All Pro football star and Collegiate wrestler, he broke into the business with the help of Jim Ross. He was a major star both in the US and Japan, even going on a 10 year streak of not being pinned or being forced to submit on US soil. He is the reason that you all know the name Steve Austin who was forced to change his surname of Williams to avoid confusion with Dr. Death. Fans may remember the high profile feud he had with Rick and Scott Steiner while teaming with the late Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy. R.I.P
WOW!! my heart hurt from this one;seriously! Man I remember as a kid born & raised in *** La. the home of MidSouth Wrestling. We went to see these guys all the time. Junk Yark Dog, Big BobCat, Kabooie, *** Reid, Sting&Rock and can't forget the Fabulous Free Birds. Doctor Death and Rob Ricksteiner was tag team partners for many years. The real wrestling fans can relate when I say; Steve Williams will be missed but never forgotten. R.I.P
I remember, when I was a little boy, my dad would always take us to watch Mid-South Wrestling when it would come to Baton Rouge every month. Dr. Death was one of the most popular wrestlers in Mid-South along with the Junkyad Dog, Buck Robley, Cowboy Bill Watts, Paul Orndorff, Killer Karl Kox, Mr. Wrestling and Hacksaw *** Reed among others.
Rest In Peace, Dr. Death!
*** Doc was always one of my favorites. He inspired me to go into wrestling myself. I still remeber see him press bubba rogers ( Big Boss Man RIP to you too Bro) 7 times overhead. he died of the throat cancer that he had come back after it had went into remission once.. i still think in a way steroids had something to do with the cancer as i have been told, your muscles and organs aren't the only things that grow when you are on the juice but any cancerous growth in your body also get larger as well as well. Plus Williams really chewed a lot of tobaccoo as well which help mess his throat up
*** just remember i actually saw get arrested 22 years almost to the day (Jan 4 1988) I watch Steve williams was in detroit metro airport going to Japan for a tour with all Japan. he go caught with all sorts of Steroids pills and Coke. man oh man. he was tagging with terry gordy at the time ( RIP to he too ...*** met him 3 weeks before HE died in 2001).
