: MediaTakeOut.com just received some DISTURBING news. According to some insiders at Virginia's Hampton University, the school is looking to BAN women from wearing leggings.
The school already has a rather STRICT dress code, with men not able to wear sagging pants, dude rags, or fitted caps. And women not allowed to wear booty shorts.
And why the ban on leggings? An insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "Too many women are wearing tights or panty hose, and calling them leggings. It's inappropriate."
What do you guys think about the ban????
I can see their point. TOO many women are showing the silhouette of their *** to the world...Or *** near a camel toe. We ALL don't want/need to see that.
Back in the day people used to dress so much sharper. Nowadays people are just sloppy and lazy, with little class.
And it would take a man to say they make a woman look sexier.
Ladies, we don't have to have everything hugging our privates us to feel attractive.
I brought a pair of the denim looking tights I wore them last weekend, dear God I almost cause all kinds of accidents in those tights. I highly recommend them ladies!!
The University should ban Big Girls from wearing them!! I'm sure that's all they want they just don't want to come out and say it. Fat women would start protesting in sh*t!!
I agree with the campus. And black women take things too far. Alot of women do not know the appropriate undergarments for some clothing.
If you were liquid leggings, or ANY leggings for that matter, GO GET YOUR BEHIND SOME DAYUM SPANX, AND ENOUGH WITH ALL THE CELLULITE AND CAMEL-TOE!
I'll be happy to consult anyone that has any style concerns. It's what I do! :)
u should see some of da *** in leggings on campus ..they dont even wear underwear the booty be clapping in dem leggings boom boom pow.. its distracting to the learning enviorment... most girls are their more expermental while in college so at least while getting brain u would be getting head with honors go pirates...Motto: "The Standard of Excellence - An Education for Life"
TexasGlamourChic Flag post I think it's a great idea because some females don't know how to wear them and they end up looking like hookers, leggings or tights look best when worn with long tunic tops or dresses not baby tees and tank tops....that's how it is tho, those that can't get it right always f*ck it up for someone else, just like we don't have casual Fridays @ my job anymore because females was coming to work dressed like they were going to the club! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Exactly!
I applaud the Administration's decision for invoking a strict dress code! Tired of seeing these young people inappropriately dressed in public while they THINK they're looking cute. Females wearing pajama bottoms out in the streets. That sends the message that she is ready to hop right back in bed with any Nucca she can pick up on the way back from the the Bodega!! And the Du-rags on the heads of the young boys gotta go --- just like themstupid-looking, oversized 'fitted' baseball caps that make the lil' Nuccas look like Charlie Fcuckin' Brown.....and the saggy pants are a definite no-no...wy
uniqueSag - lool I believe you're talking about bezsenny (something like that) ..
lool @ GoodGirl2
-- Honestly it sucks because some girls actually wear leggings the PROPER way so they *** expell those who wear them right.
Expell the girls wearing tights (see through and what not) as leggings and expell those wearing leggings and showing camel toe and wearing tops that are too *** with them. THAT should be a crime!
misshugrad~ Usually it's the big bold and the ugly that make comments such as yours. I'm willing to bet you a jelly donut that you fall in with that category. I only wear my tights on the weekend and girllllllllll you should have seen me last Friday the men all paused when I walked in the room. *** I need a pair of them for everyday of the week.
My children are grown now and I must say...my boys don't wear sagging jeans and my girl doesn't where spandex...none of my children have tats and they are gorgeous college educated professionals. when they were growing up I brow-beat them with this philosphy: "there are rules and regulations where ever you go and you must adhere to them in order to be a productive citizen...unless you're a baller, an entreprenuer or an entertainer...freedom of expression may not apply! You either want a job or a career...make your choice wisely!" Without rules to abide by..society will run amuck!
Someone wrote, "If i'm paying to go to school, any school for that matter, i'm wearing what i want." BUT, when you CHOOSE a school you ALSO have to make sure you CHECK out THEIR rules and where the school is located!
If you don't know a school has the right to create NEW rules if they like and if you don't agree with them then you can BOUNCE! That is the RIGHT YOU have, but if you stay you WILL abide by their rules. ALSO HAMPTON UNIVERSITY is in a COMMON WEALTH state of Virginia, they run things their differently and independently than other states! They have had rules like you can't have ***
unless it is in the missionary position etc and if YOU happened to get caught having *** in another position then you could face fine or jail time.
Besides I know it is a style, but I have seen women not wearing leggings and trying to pass other things that are thinner than leggings off as leggings, so if you can't MAKE women wear proper leggings the only thing you can do is ban them all together.
@GoodGirl2:
Well, the fact that men GAWKING at your body makes you feel better about yourself makes me feel sorry for you.
That being said, newsflash! There are PLENTY of women who get attention from quality men WITHOUT a "the tighter the better" attitude.
And I PROMISE you, setting high standards for yourself and your body has NOTHING to do with being "big and ugly" as you put it.
Great! Hampton has standards. People are getting ridiculous and inappropriate in the name of "fashion." Just look at some of the avatars on here. Attractive or not, but some things are best left in the bedroom. Face it, some folks don't know what appropriate is, so Hampton took a stance to tell them.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'm seeing these so called "leggins" on people that should be ashamed of themselves large and small for that matter. I went to a funeral and everyone and they momma had on leggings! I go to church, they're thereI'm sick of them. They're cool when they are worn "appropriately".
misshugrad~ You want that jelly donut don't you?? lol~ I dress professionally all week. Last weekend I was borderline *** looking with my tights on. I must admit I looked nice and I tied my tee to the back with a pair of Uggs on. Don't get me wrong I don't have a closet full of provocative clothing.
Fat people need love and a crack pipe!!
Good! As a Hampton University graduate this is a good move. Too many people are celebrating fake thug culture and females acting like ***. If you have a problem with Hampton's dress code, then go to another school. As Black people we need to start presenting ourselves in a better light. You cannot enter the workforce dressed like a ho or criminal. So students might as well get prepared for the real world in college. Peace to our home by the sea, hands down the best looking Black college campus in the country. Actually it should be ranked #1 academically as well. HAMPTON PIRATES THE REAL H.U.
RicFlair: You could not have said it better. I am a proud alumni of HU and this is an excellent idea. Hampton believes in "education for life", you cannot show up to work in leggings and look professional. Why should you be able to go to class with them? Save the leggings for cleaning your dorm or hanging out on the weekends. its the same idea as pajamas. Just because leggings are in style does not mean its ACCEPTABLE attire. Catsuits are IN? does that mean President Harvey and the HU police should allow you to wear it walking across campus? HELL NO!!!
I can understand the stockings because no woman should be wearing stockings as pants with your *** all showing. That's just nasty and indecent. But regular leggings? Come on, thats crazy. Well OK as long as you have a LONG *** over it, i don't see a problem. Leggings are like the new sweat pants. It's the quickest and comfiest thing to throw on when you are trying to get to class. With the high dropout rate, they need to be happy young women are showing up to class in anything!
It's a college, not Nazi Germany. I understand older folks wanna uphold certain standards, and thats fine, I hate sagging pants, they look stupid. But they forget so soon that they were once young and that they had their fads when they were younger. Times change. As long as she looks well put together, i dont see a problem.
I like leggings with my sweaters/boots. But,I guess they want them to look professional and be prepared with the right fashion choices for interviews & careers. I have 2 teenage sons & I don't allow them to wear saggin pants !? Big jeans cool BUT wear a belt OR don't leave MY house. YOU should always dress intelligently. I understand fashion but some of this stuff is ridiculous.
And why is this disturbing? The reason for the ban is clearly stated and has more to do with the fact that some girls think throwing on a pair of stockings and calling them pants is okay. THAT IS in inappropriate and should be dealt with. It's an institution of higher learning, not a brothel, and their students should dress accordingly. I'm certain if some girls weren't walking around with half their @$$ hanging out, wearing leggings wouldn't be an issue.
Oh and if college is "supposed" to be preparation for the "real world" (whatever that is) enforcing a dress code makes sense. Self-expression is nice but depending on where you end up working when you graduate you can't just go to in looking like you're heading to the club. (I've seen chicks rocking entire outfits from rainbow like it's work gear and they probably would have benefitted from a crash course in proper office attire.)
@Nubian_Huntress Agreed !!! It's some smart people up in here today ! I'm loving this right here (LOL)I had to tell my niece to cover hers up with a longer ***, she is TOO developed and is a teenager. When I tried to dress crazy MY daddy said " Nuh ugh go change, don't leave out my hose looking like a street-walker". When mini-skirts was out my daddy wouldn't let me wear them. He said they were TOO ***; and I was TOO developed. I'm glad he taught me to respect myself with what I wear !
And to prove my point exactly...by the way thanx to all my intelligent brother and sisters here today... sum bird just walked in here **a bank** for a job interview in lucite heels, "the leggings" and a tigh azz *** like she just ran off stage forgetting her interview! WHY IS IT ALWASY MY CUZINS?? WHY???? I can't people...I am tempted to go into the interview room and *** her by the back of her black azz neck and beat her senseless!
*in the words of the ever immortal Florida Evans of GoodTimes...*** DAMN DAMN*
Itsabttime~ I agree with you. Just as I indicated earlier I dress professionally at work in fact some days I question my college’s attire. Nevertheless it's about what's appropriate in certain setting.
Also if they want to set dress codes lets take it back to the days when the teachers dressed in professional attire.
Where living in a time where teachers are *** the students!!
If there are "women" wearing panty hose and tights inappropiately then I agree with the ban. The school should protect themselves. I don't understand some women these days. Why would you put yourself out there like that? I personally don't want to see someone's underwear or behind. Stop being cheap and buy leggings or a nice top to cover the neccessary areas.
Woah, some of you are taking it a bit too far.
I'm in college and when I graduate and get a job, my job will require me to wear heels + dress pants etc - I'm NOT tryna dress like that everyday while I'm still in school!
And prepare for the real world? It's common sense that you can't wear leggings to work in a proper office setting.
Also like others mentionned - the pajama thing is kindaa crazy. I remember back in elementary school they banned pajama day because some people would literally just roll out of bed and come to school and it was "unsanitary" or whatever the school said.
@BrickHowse Re: comment abt Germany and if the girl is presentable, its ok.
I understand your point. however Hampton can not leave it open ended. They have to make a decision. I am sure this has been in discussion for while b4 it came to this. im sure there are women who are very classy in their leggins. but for every 1, im sure there are 20 who look a mess.
@msayana its "common sense"---to you it may be, but for many its not!
The teens and young adults I hire come in for interviews with leggings, uggs, and pink sweatshirts and get attiude when i dont hire them.
I dont know abt now, but while i was at Hampton, it was mandatory that you owned at least 1 suit. and participated in a university 101 class that taught Job attire, ettiquette, etc. and I am thankful that I can teach the many young people that i hire. What is/what isnt appropriate. and Im grateful for HU for re-inforcing it.
@ MSAYANA, you should definitely wholeheartedly enjoy your youth while you can and I'm certain the Hampton University administrators feel the same way. Again, the code is obviously being instituted because some young women can't seem to discern the difference between appropriate dress and street walker attire. Seems like a case of a few rotten apples spoiling the bunch and I'm certain the rule wouldn't be an issue if people were wearing leggings appropriately. In a learning institution that means of proper thickness with all of your vital parts covered.
I guess they distract and are not casual attire.
But I don' think they can do that. I mean, if you are in a phys ed. class, and you have to run to class before you get a chance to change. How can they expel someone for that.
That is kind of *** rule. *** short skirts and booty *** would be more realistic.
Nubian_Huntress - yeah a few people definitely spoiled it for everyone. It's pretty silly though that this is a problem, I don't know why anyone would want to walk around with see through tights on or with "camel toe" showing.
But now that I think about it, it's really not that big of a deal. You're only at school for a few or more hours and then you're free to leave and wear what you want.
If you live on campus that's a different story - but I could live without wearing leggings ..
what next? colleges sayin you cant smoke weed on campus? how absurb?! anyway watch funny skits by the DMVs own Hustle Fam at www.thehustlefam.blogspot.com anyway watch funny skits by the DMVs own Hustle Fam at www.thehustlefam.blogspot.com anyway watch funny skits by the DMVs own Hustle Fam at www.thehustlefam.blogspot.com
I agree with it! I done seen sooo many women walking around lookin' too stank in them. They're definitely NOT for everyone! I personally wouldn't leave the house with them on. They're comfortable just to be worn at home to me. It seems that leggings has took the place of REAL PANTS(jeans) for a lot of women. Leave that stanky look for the club where you'll get all the attention you want...
This is a cute fashion statement BUT of course you have those females that go TOO FAR. Im pretty sure everyone woman has put on a pair of pantyhose and you know how sheer they look...If you buy tights that ARE SHEER LIKE PANTYHOSE THEN PUT THEM UNDER SOMETHING... The tights that you see All these celebrities wearing are OPAQUE AND THICK.. Cant see anything. YOU KNOW IF ITS TOO SHEER OR NOT, STOP PLAYIN! If they cant make decisions like an adult well then there you go. What are you supposed to do when beaucoup women go OUTSIDE W/ PANTYHOSE, UGGS AND A SWEATER? COME ON NOW!
