: MediaTakeOut.com just got a SNEAK PEAK at the 10 MOST POPULAR baby names in the United States. The full list is set for release next week
Some of the names are VERY surprising, who knew they were so many Black Madison's and Jayden's around . . .
Here is the list for girls:
1 Jayden
2 Joshua
3 Elijah
4 Jaden
5 Justin/Christian
6 Jeremiah
7 Isaiah
8 Jordan
9 Christopher/Michael (Tied)
10 Barack
All the names are nice, too cute...Not too crazy about the name Barack even though it's the president's name but I guess since he's been in office, many parents paid an homage to him by naming their babies after him ,I guess.
Thank God many black ppl are letting to hideous, fabricated hood names goo already!lol
man, f*ck them European names! what's so bad about giving our seeds African, Muslim or even ghetto names 4 that matter? I think it sucks that we allow society 2 tell us what we can & can't name our children 4 the sake of their future, like a child with an ethnic name is destined 2 go 2 prison later in life. GTFOH!
smh last couple baby names i came acoss leeandre, pharrell, shaquna, alquan. black folks like mashing to names together to make one *** up one. shaquna really how about shawna or quna. alquan how about allen or quan. leeandre how about lee lenard andre or dre. pharrell how about peter. i know you wanna be different but come on i know a girl named daquita and latasha.
@ dagreat1....
it doesn't have 2 be that way, I feel that a child with a so called "ghetto" name can be as productive in society as a child with a regular name, as long as the parent(s) can raise that child right & exact. the babies R the future. I feel it's a matter of the powers that be having their collective heads up their collecvtive @$$es & changing the rules, IMO, those names R counterproductive because those suckers won't take time learning how 2 pronounce them. I feel U though, my daughter's name is Jordyn, I wanted 2 name her Assata, un4tunately, her mother didn't like that name.
@Dre7Guevara: Thank you for some common sense in this thread! Why the hell should Blacks be afraid and ashamed for daring to give their kids a non-European name. Names that are inspired by consumer goods an liqueur are a bit much, but other so called ghetto names (e.g., Sharnell, Lashonda, etc) are fine and should not be avoid just because White society may be offended by its non European-ness.
@ dagreat1....
that's the parent's fault, it's up 2 them 2 raise their babies & teach them how 2 be civilized but a majority of them probably weren't raised properly themselves. what WE as a race need 2 do is break away from this cycle of living life with an ignorant mentality.
"You can't party your life away, drink your life away, smoke your life away, f*ck your life away, dream your life away, scheme your life away, cause your seeds grow up the same way"
@dagreat1: I have reading comprehension! You just need to stop being so emotional and reactionary. As long as a ghetto name isn't a *** of a consumer product or liqueur (i.e., Patronia) I see nothing wrong with it. Blacks *** be ashamed of naming their children non-European/Muslim/Arab/African names, period!
Anyone who names their son Barack needs to be ***! You don't even know this mans plans yet and you naming your child after him? Despite the fact that its a stupid name anyway. And FYI mto Jaden/Jayden is one of the most popular names for boys period but I'm suspect at those lists. How many of yall know any black people named more than 2 names off that list?
Madison?
I know OF so many Tameekas, Shaneekas, etc.
Names like Kayla are so common - I'd name my daughter something not so common with a unique spelling.
I love the names Elijah and Christian - I definitely would name my future sons (if I have boys) those names.
Christopher is a VERYYY common name. MOST of my closest guy friends are Chris' .. I have to give each of them my own little nicknames in my phone so I don't get them mixed up.
@jaming: why the name calling? first off,I'm not even African American. I'm a black woman, yes but I'm form Honduras so even though I like the list of names above,I wouldn't name my kids any of those because my family wouldn't be able to pronounce them. Bianca is of latin origin & even though that's what it means,it's till a pretty name. No need for name calling neither,I haven't disrespected you in any way
Im not here to argue but I gotta defend myself. I have one of those "ethnic" names. Not everyone with an ethnic name is "ghetto". I work for my state, have a bachelors degree from a university and a side small business. I understand the concensus because some people truly live up to the stereotypes that go with those names. HOWEVER don't feed into that sterotype. Do you ever hear of any other race that put down members of their same race because of their name? We're the only race that seem to have self hate.
@ kneequa....
& that's the point I'm trying 2 show & prove here, as 4 the comment about being the only race 2 have self hate, we both know that comes from years of being taught 2 hate ourselves, if U ask me, I think that's what this is all about, hating ourselves 2 the point that we as a race stray away from our heritage.
I AM SO HAPPY THAT MOST OF ALL OF THE NAMES ARE DECENT. I DETEST BLACK AMERICANS NAMING THEIR CHILDREN MADE UP NAMES, NAMES THAT END WITH NAY OR IESHA, OR MUSLIM NAMES.
MADISON IS VERY PRETTY. JADEN IS VERY HANDSOME.
THAT NEVAEH IS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS, ITS HEAVEN SPELLED BACKWARDS---HATED IT!!!! TRAILER TRASH *** STARTED THAT TREND YEARS AGO.
A lot of yall sound stupid. Whytf would you allow white people to set the standard on names? A lot of you are saying " it's so my child can get a better job" blah blah blah but it sounds like a lot of self hate to me. i'm lmao at the ignorant idiots who are expressing relief that African Americans are migrating towards "white" names. WTF makes a name white anyway idiot.
@ Drama Diva you are probably the most ignorant *** that has ever posted here and that says a lot. Made up names? If you would have thought to look it up you would see that JAYDEN is a modern American creation with no other geographical or religious ties. WHICH MEANS THAT NAME WAS MADE UP DUMMY. It's only acceptable to you because society told you so and your dumb a s s thought it was an original thought. I'm laughing at you
illy19132 Flag post Surprisingly that's not as bad as i thought it would be. We all know how ridiculous negroids get with these names. However naming your child Barack is silly. I understand he's the prez and all but half of those lil bobble heads won't live up to that name; the name is awful anyway
---------------------- *** your mexican *** up. Your always hating on black ppl makes me wonder why you come here everyday. Im sure your not use to those names so stick to calling your kids pedro maria Hugo Chavez jose
or whatever your use to
Whats in a *** name really? I had a young man in court with the name Thurgood, only to desecrate what others may feel is a distinguished name. Its always this comparison between whites and blacks. Indians have the most whimiscal names I'v ever heard and people respect them for that so people has a right to be name whatever. Whats not right is for people to judge or refuse others employment based on name on a resume, i.e that *** shown on 20/20 in the past.
If I didnt see Barack on the boys names, I would have thought that was Bible roll call 400bc. Don't get me wrong the Bible is fine so I guess if its not broke dont fix it...
Atleast the girls names are new and interesting
See Nevaeh...Heaven spelled backwards. Now thats how you bring the spirituality into the 21st century LOL
Sike naw all them names sound white as hell...
sorry about that Dre don't Judge Me by My dress it was My Bithday Party.. LOL I'm reading sum of tha cmmts & I agree with most. I work *** Engineering @ GE & I have 2 say I have a different name Utocqua pro(U-toc-qua) it's a Native name that means little Princess & I have always worked hard *** School so I never really had a problem getting 2 were I wanted 2 b in life.
Me I dont go with whats popular my children have unique meaningful names. People quick to call names "ghetto" but A LOT of them actually have "real meaning" and are actually Hebrew Swahili and Arabic (all sister languanges believe it or not)
Tip of the day: People you can use the internet as a learning tool too.
illy19132 Flag post @BKLYNKEY718...you are a dik sucking ***. I can officially call you one of my fans because your *** azz lives to read and respond to my posts. Hey negroid go knock up a gutter rat or commit a crime and stop MTO stalking me you no good ***. ------------
I see i hit a nerve lol....listen chick ain't nobody worrying about you....But everytime i catch your lil racist comment believe me i'll call you out....PERIOD!!!!
As someone who did hiring for a large company..those names are not likely to be called back for an interview unless they have major education and experience attached to it. I would have given them a chance but the higher ups were not trying to hear Makayla being VP. It's not fair, but that's the current state of the world and I'm trying to change that view by going back to school so that I'll be able to give opportunities to the educated out of the bunch to help advance our people. I'm trying to erase prejudice one Jada and Jaden at a time!
dagreat1..BE CURIOUS ALL YOU *** WANT..THE QUESTION IS WHY DOES IT MATTER TO YOU WHAT I TYPE? I DON'T LOSE SLEEP AT *** WONDERING WHY PPL GIVE THEIR CHILDREN CERTAIN NAMES, BUT I SURE AS HELL CAN COMMENT ON IT..AND AMANI IS NOT MY BIRTH NAME..MIDDLE NAME...BASICALLY IT'S NOWHERE ON MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE..JUS LIKE DAGREAT1 ISN'T YOUR NAME..SO STOP ASSuming
illy19132 Flag post @BKLYNKEY718 and NYSDIVA...Two Pathetic trolls and bklynkey718 is a MTO stalker, you seek out my comments to respond to. *** get a life and NYSDIVA go wash your azz you filthy heifer --------------
stalker???? not hardly..... actually im not even on mto everyday to seek your comments so try again but trust me if i happen to witness a racist comment you make you better believe i will respond....if you don't like it you can always go to another website you may be more comfortable with.... here's some advice telemundo.com amigos.com Goyabean.com
The self-hate that has been bestowed upon us is so prevalent in many of the ignorant comments above. It makes me sad. I don't care if your name is Julia or Laquanetta, you can still be a productive citizen and your name should be considered beautiful regardless of the culture it reflects. This coming from a lady named Judith.
At any rate, my BLACK neice is named Madison (she's adorable and so is the name) and my BLACK son's name is Jaden. I like the list. Even Barack. LOL.
LOL @ tha great1 this definately is My pic & how do u get any form of Man from My cmmts is beyond Me LOL.. & i was actually likin some of tha cmmts u post.. is it bcuz I don't waste My time tearing other Black Women 2 pieces bcuz of tha way they look or Maybe bcuz I can say a Woman looks nice that make u think that? whatever tha case it makes no difference 2 Me. I am an educated Woman who is Married 2 a Wonderful Black Man... so think what u want about Me.. Ol Otis
My mom's name is Patricia so she named me Ricia. Now when I tell WHITE people my name they get it off top! Repeat it back correctly and everything! But BLACK FOLKS just can't seem to grasp the concept -LOL! I even go as far as saying, "It's pronounced like Trisha w/o the T." Needless to say they usually end up calling me RiRi or by my last name. LOL
I LOVE my people!! =) <3
"man, f*ck them European names! what's so bad about giving our seeds African, Muslim or even ghetto names 4 that matter? STUDIES show that a name can affect your child's future in a negative way, even just a little. why would you name your black daughter Shaniqua or Laquita or son Lavante? we got enough problems getting jobs without being stereotyped. A name means a lot.
I agree 100% with Dre7Guevara. why do we have to give a children european/white names for it to be acceptable? Call your child whatever you want to call them, the more unusual the better. There is nothing wrong in making up a name for your child, who wants to hear another amber, michael or michelle?
its funny they came out with this list because, im about to have my daughter any day now and im gonna name her Madison- first off i always liked the name and im from ny, but alot of people around me have tryed to make me change my mind because it sounds " 2 white" just like when i had my son i named him alexander but im sorry people dont realize you set your child up for failure when you give them urban names like shaquanda, malika, tayquan.i had a former employer tell me that when she come across apps with names like that she throws them out, because more then likely the person is "ghetto".
I'm lmbo at all these comments! I know people with half those names! There's a Masdison, Alyssa, Brianna, AND a Navaeh that go to my church. My old pastor's daughter's name is NAKaylah(not exactly Makaylah but close)my best friends' niece's name is Jada and my other friends' daughters' name is Chloe and my friend from HS named his son Barack! LOL! My daughter's name is Brooke Olivia but I had her in 07 so I guess that doesn't count :(
I'm tired of black people saying that they are giving their children (white) sounding names, so that in the future they will be able to get good jobs. This is ridiculous. Your name doesn't hide your skin color. It isn't your name that will get you the job it's your experience and education that follows. If an employer has to choose between Tameka: 10 yrs. experience with a Masters degree and credentials or Emily with just a G.E.D. and no experience. Who do you think is going to get the job? We as black people are taught that everything about us isn't good enough from our skin color to our name
@supaflylady...it wasn't the reason why i did, but it was a consideration in picking my children's name...and not a "white" name, i just like simple (madison, btw)...i understand what you're saying but what about when they're just looking thru the apps without the person in front of them, i think they would bypass *** with a masters before susan with a high school diploma
