: MediaTakeOut.com has learned that actress Paula Patton has come out to claim that even though her mom is Caucasian, she considers herself Black.
Here’s what she told Woman’s Health magazine:
I find [the term biracial] offensive. It’s a way for people to separate themselves from African-Americans….a way of saying ‘I’m better than that’.WE actually agree with Paula on this one. But, we're sure there are plenty of biracial folk out there who DON’T!!!I’m black because that’s the way the world sees me. People aren’t calling Barack Obama biracial. Most people think there’s a black president.
I THINK BIRACIAL PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THEIR OWN CLASSIFICATION ALSO. NO MATTER HOW DARK OR HOW LIGHT THEY ARE. IF YOU HAVE ONE BIRTH PARENT WHO IS 1 RACE AND THE OTHER ANOTHER RACE THEN YOU ARENT A FULL RACE.
BUT IF A BIRACIAL PERSON CHOOSES TO IDENTIFY WITH WHAT THEY WANT TO IDENTIFY WITH THEN THATS THEIR CHOICE. NOW IF YOUR BLACK AND YOU LIE AND SAY YOUR MIXED THEN U HAVE NO CHOICE BEING THAT YOU ARE BLACK AND NOTHING ELSE ANBD THATS WHAT I DONT AGREE WITH
she's right that's how it is in the world biracial is only existant to black people. we r all black accourding to others..but I don't find biracial offensive it is what it is but at the end of th day biracial means nothing never has never will...its funny how all these mixed actresses like zoe sandala and rosario dawson try to play on it they most def look black
I'm on the fence about this...It depends on the mindset of the person. Unfortunately in America there is some advantage to saying "hey I'm part somthing else besides african-american" If the person looks black but is constantly saying "mother is white" "my grandmother was indian" as if there is something wrong with being all black then that's a problem. Also I think people should identify with the group that has raised them and accepts them. If my white grandparents disowned my mother cause she was with a black man i don't think i would want to identify with them.
AND DATS HOW SHE SHOULD LOOK AT IT CAUSE DATS HOW MOST OF US SEE HER WE AINT LOOKIN AT PAULA SAYIN SHES HALF WHITE NO WHAT WE SEE IS A YELLOW SISTA AND IM GLAD SHE REGCONIZES SHE HAS SOME BLACK IN HER UNLIKE SOME BIRACIAL PPL NO NAMES LETS JUST SAY DEY PLAY AN OUTDOOR SPORT YEAH ANYWAY PAULA LOOKS AMAZIN BABY IN ALL ROBIN PICKED A GOOD ONE 4 SHO.
the only reason some black women claim her as one of their own is because she is with a white man, if she was with a black man some hoes will try to find a way to make her not black they will try to find a way to make her anything but black, and the *** she is with would be considered a self hater and accused of liking her only because she is closer to white
I thought that one of her parents were mixed/creole/biracial and the other one was African-American like Beyonce? I heard she had two black parents. I think she is more African-American, but just a light skin black, so why is she commenting on the term bi-racial and why are people puzzled by her background, when she has said a million times that she is black? I think interviewers ask ask her race because they cant believe that a woman that look as beautiful as her is African-American or calls herself black. I bet they think, "Oh she just couldnt be black"!
Yeah I'm multiracial too, But I consider myself black also.. It is offensive in my opinion also.. Like look at Leona Lewis...all she hangs out with are white people.. But yeah wheither people believe it or not I DO CONSIDER MYSELF BLACK... I hate when people tell me ohh you're not black you're white. It's like how the fu--ck are you gonna tell me what race I am.
Paula Patton to my knowledge is not directly bi-racial, just light skin. Im sure Paula is very mixed somewhere, just like a lot of us black folks. Maybe she is commenting about her mixed race child in her stomach? And also, how could the term be offensive when she has a mixed child in her stomach? Does the child suppose to deny their white father? I only consider mixed people black when they say they are, but mix people should be aware that they will be looked at as black in America regardless.
Right on to her, but I don't thin biracial is offensive. I think they use the term on her, though because they are not trying to call her black. I guess they were trying to pick up one for their team but Paula wasn't having it. Kudos to her for having pride in her black heritage. I am the same way. We may fight, argue but there is a lot of love between black people being that our race has been through and continues to go through the trials and tribulations of life.
@JAYBLAKKK1
If you have to constantly tell people that you are not all black all the time then what's the point?
If a person looks black then whats the advantage to pointing out that one of their parents is white?
The only race that doesn't want to be "limited" as you put it are black people. White people check the white box happily. Asians Check the asian box happily. white/asian biracial people check white or asian happily. The only people wondering what other box they can check besides black are African Americans. I guess i'm not on the fence about this at all.
in england they use the term "HALF-CAST" and the first time i went their and heard it i thought it was highly offfensive (i am from the caribbean)., as HALLE B said "you have to choose a side" but those people who somehow think they are better of by claiming to be white b/c they feel society will accept them better have self esteem issues.
Paula can claim who or what she likes, but it's unfortunate that she believes that ANYONE who is biracial and decides to claim biracial as their nationality is trying to denounce being black.
That's stupid! I do'nt care WHAT the pigmentation of your skin tone is, if you have ONE black parent, then you're black AND... since when does black trump everything else?
I have a non-black parent, should I denounce the ENTIRE side of my FAMILY to please some black STRANGERS who don't give a fu*k about me anyway?
I kinda get where she's coming from. I mean my mother is mexican/black and my dad is bajan. And ppl always call me biracial cause I got light skin, green eyes and long hair but I don't even have white in me and it annoys me when ppl say that. Cause I see myself as an african american..
So I feel ya Paula!
How this any different than Tiger Woods saying he's not black, he's mixed. If she'd the make the EXACT same statement in reverse, there'd be an uproar and she'd be accused of "self-hate". You people are so reverse-racist and hypocratic and don't even realize how much you contradict yourselves. Im not knocking Paula because I agree she is entitled to her feelings.
thats right paula......claim one and dont let them mediat tell you who you are.....*** if every black american was to claim the others that they are mixed with it would be a lot of biracial blacks walking around here....trying to sound all exotic. yep my grandmother's uncle cousin is white so IM MIXED....sorry for the typos...my screen trippin
Redduck Says:
I LUV HER AND I’M GLAD SHE IS KEEPING IT REAL. NO MATTER IF YOU ARE MIXED YOUR STILL BLACK BECAUSE THE WORLD WILL SEE YOU AS BLACK. WHEN PEOPLE SAY THEIR BIRACAL, IT’S BECAUSE THEIR TRYING TO MAKE THEMSELVES OUT TO BE MORE THEN THEY ARE, LIKE THEY CAN CHANGE WHAT ONE EYE’S SEE! ~~~ REALLY? Who gives a fu*k what PEOPLE think? Is it possible that people claim to be biracial because they, um...ARE?!? Who are YOU as a total stranger to decide that I should deny one of my parents? You REALLY think I care what society see's me as? Those people see me as a N*&&er TOO!
Shes saying only folks who use terms like "biracial" or "mixed' are the ones who cant accept the fact thier African-American. If you think about its a weird form of self hatred cause all African-Americans are mixed, it really can go without being said. How many mexicans do you see claiming thier racially "mixed". THEY KNOW THIER MIXED racially, they just say Mexican. Shes African-American, period. The rest is really just sematics to me.
I TOO AM ASIAN/BLK BUT I ALSO CONSIDER MYSELF BLACK NOT THAT IM DENYING MY ASIAN HERITAGE B/C I DON'T AND AM VERY INTOUCH WITH BOTH SIDES & IT SHOWS BUT IT'S A KNOWN FACT THAT IF YOU HAVE 1OZ OF AFRICANAMERICAN BLOOD YOUR ARE CONSIDERED THAT(AFRICAN AMERICAN) APPLICATIONS DON'T HAVE USUSALLY HAVE A SPACE 4 ALL THE DIFFERENT MIXES...AND EVERYBODY IS MIXED WITH SOMETHING WHETHER U WANNA ACKNOWLEDGE IT OR NOT..NOBODY IS 100% ANYTHING
How do u find biracial offensive if U are or how bout multiracial. Man if I was biracial I would own it and learn to love it. I wouldn't want to offend anyone of my parents. This is what I was trying to explain yesterday. and all these ppl sayin if I look black so if u look more white u should say u white? SMH Embrace yourself if u are mixed racr and those who dont like ie *** em! @ MissPearl you hit the nail on the head! I agree!
ok she really is bi-racial but I know some black people who claim they are 1/3 German, 1/3 Jamaican and 1/3 Indian...get the *** outta her knowing they are pure Negra. I think that some blacks think they are better then other if they are of mixed heritage. Just lik eBey..thats my gurl but she is Black! All this Creaole, Cajun mess is crazy..I'm from Louisiana and yes my people are Creoles but when people ask..we are black!
@ chanchan I WENT TO LONDON IN 2007. sorry if i hit a nerve, however i am just stating what i heard with my own ears, this was all new to me.and i felt it was offensive . you may have a slight problem if every morning you have to decide what "to be" instead of just "being" because you grew up in lodon it probably would have meant nothing to you , i suppose.
PAULA PATTON IS GORGEOUS and she is right about BI-RACIAL being OFFENSIVE!!!... if these CONFUSED MIXED NUTS HAD ANY SENSE THEY WOULD find it offensive also!!..
ALL PEOPLE SEEM TO LOVE TO put attractive black people like PAULA PATTON in the mixed, half white, or OTHER CATEGORY cause many darkskinned people can't live up to a lightskinned persons BEAUTY!!!...I'm sorry thats just the REALITY!!!...BUT it doesn't make a lighter skin toned black person any LESS BLACK!!SO its easier for them to say "OH they're NOT REALLY BLACK!" to themselves or comments like many have posted on THIS SITE!!!...
I don't understand how she could find bi-racial offensive if that's what she is...TWO races. I'm bi-racial as well and I don't choose a side. The world can see me how they want but I enjoy great relationship with both sides of my family & I believe it would be somewhat hurtful to them & disrespectful if I chose to neglect the claiming of either side.
ALSO WHITE PEOPLE LOVE UGLY DARKSKINNED BLACK FOLKS TO REPRESENT us like OPRAH the MAMMY or MANLY WHOOPI...so they can feel good ABOUT BEING WHITE!!!..THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE THIS....I FEEL ITS A MIRACLE If AN attractive, intelligent, and confident BLACK PERSON EVER MAKES IT IN THE SPOTLIGHT!!!...CAUSE MANY WHITE FOLKS AIN't HAVIN that!!!...
I have the answer. Stop looking for beautiful and talent people to represent you and represent yourself. Be proud of yourself instead of trying to associate yourself with someone else's prosperities. What's worse is when the worst people of each race do their dirt and then hide behind the race, disgracing an millions of people who don't know or agree with you.
LONDON : I UNDERSTAND THAT THE RACIAL VIEWS BETWEEN AMERICA AND ENGLAND ARE VERY DIFFRENT RACIAL VIEWS WERE IM FROM IF U AINT FULL BRITISH YOUR MIXED I JUST DONT LIKE THE TERM BI RACIAL ITS SOUNDS LIKE BI SEXUAL WHICH IS *** WHICH IN SOCIETY WOULD BE WRONG I WAS RAISED BY MY JAMAICAN RELATIVES BUT WOULD NEVER EVER DENY MY WHITE FAMO
tsk tsk....Typical Tragic Mullatto.
Who the f*ck cares what society sees you as. If a dude wears a pink polo, does that make him ***?? But wait....people will see him as ***, so it doesn't matter if he really is straight....he's ***.
stupid ish like this is what further promotes racism.
PROUD CABLINASIAN IN THE HOUSE!!!
MESSAGE TO THE children of a white and black parent...common sense should tell you that just because your white parent or NON-BLACK PARENT screwed a black person to create YOU doesn't make them any less RACIST INSIDE!!..They are not stupid about their racist society so don't let them fool you like they are REALLY OFFENDED that ur not claiming ur white or non-black side!!!...THEY KNEW ONCE THEY WENT TO THE DARKSIDE TO *** A BLACK PERSON that their offspring/children would more than likely be COMPLETELY BLACK!!!...
U r biracial sweety. Me & alot of the world see u as a biracial woman not black. Pure Africans don't tend to have lightskin, narrow noses, & straight silky hair. Cus if Hollywood truly saw u as a black woman & not biracial black woman, u would not be getting all those rolls. U can't deny ur Caucasian mom who spit u out that ***.
For those who say mixed ppl that claim both sides & dont want to classify themselves as "black" are trying to make themselves seem better..that's completely ignorant. Some may, but I can say it def isn't everybody! I love who I am..& both sides of my heritage. I dont refer to myself as black bc thats not all I am. I love my WHOLE family..& im not denying either side based on what other ppl think. In fact, many blck ppl want mixed ppl to claim theyre blak but thats BS bc some of those same blck ppl were the ones like "why he want that white girl" ect. to me in HS.
She is right. I am sick of Tiger woods and nem trying to make themselves be more than black. Most of us are mixed with something else. If you look like a black person, you should consider yourself black, because that is how you are seen by the world. You are just deluding yourself if you think you are black plus. Black is the dominant race, because it was the first race. I have African, Native American, and French, both parents from Louisiana. I am mistaken a lot of times for being Hispanic. I am black and very proud of it.
Ppl always have an opinion on mixed ppl and how they should classify themselves and various other issues but I don't think anybody can call that unless you are biracial. We have our on set of issues & ive dealt with not being accepted by some black AND white ppl at times my whole life. So be more open minded about it until youre in our shoes!
Sweetie you are BIRACIAL no matter how you look @ it. So is Obama ~ Only ignorant people see you as one race as they also see other biracial people. You are what you are. Do you deny your non black side?? Probably not, and what are you going to tell your baby?? Robin is WHITE and your mixed with white and black, so is your baby going to be considered white or black??
I'm not going to knock her, that's her personal outlook. Many bi-racial children tend to identify with whichever race they more closely resemble. Since she can pass for a black woman and most people would classify her as that, she choose to embrace that said. It's ultimately up to that person to decide how they want to classify themselves. Not getting the whole bi-racial thing as offensive though. Yes, it's bad when someone does it to discredit their black side, but there's nothing wrong with embracing all of your racial background.
I DISAGREE, SHE CAN'T CLASS HERSELF AS BLACK. I AM SORRY TO SAY, SHE IS MIXED RACE.I DON'T SEE HER AS BLACK OR EVEN WHITE, SHE IS MIXED RACE OR BIRACIAL. APPARENTLY IN ENGLAND LONDON THEY USED TO CALLED SOMEONE WHO HAS A BLACK FATHER AND A WHITE MOTHER OR WHITE FATHER AND BLACK MOTHER HALF CASTE, THE OLD ENGLISH FOLKS STILL USE THAT TODAY.
My father is biracial & I consider him both black & white-French Cajun. Bcus I grew up *** the Cajun culture: spicy food, zydeco music, I speak French 2; sumtimes I might catch myself refering to myself as a blk & French woman cus of how much identify with my Cajun side. I consider my self black tho- a black Cajun & not biracial only cus I have more than half of African genes *** me. I have a little Indian in me to like most African Americans, but I don't identify with it cus I know nothing about it.
@lottahead21: *** up with that airbrushed photoshopped pic. as soon as it opens it's mouth, you can tell what it is. lol. we know how your casting couch azz gets everything. h* sit down. oprah, whoopi goldbergh, jennifer hudson, fantasian, gladys ***, whitney houston, cicely tyson, aretha franklin, h8 sit your illiterate casting couch lying azz down.
cajun ghetto gumbo dumb azz, ghetto. lying, stealing, killing, cheating azz negroid. cajun gumbo negroid. identity crisis having clown. like pink said "i wanna be somebody else" beach can't speak one drop of french except that line from Moulin Rouge. dumb negroid wouldn't know what that meant but it's the story of your life
Another thing @ emmettmays85, Paula Patton is with a white man, so her kids will be white. At least Gabby Union is with a black man, but since both of these women are rich and beautiful, you don't have a chance with either one of them, ESPECIALLY Paula. She's like that Soledad O'Brien chick, playing the "black card" but has a white husband. You make me laugh supporting a woman that wouldn't caught dead with a black man. The only black man that's probably been within 100 feet of her in the last ten years was the hired help, if that, and she can always get hispanic men for that instead too lol!!
Bluboy, again, biracials are not black and *** disrespect the other half of themselves by claiming to be full black.
@ItsTooMuch they're are enough dark peoples with their heads up WHITE FOLKS AZZES...we don't need another!!! IF ANYTHING a lightskinned person knows better than a darkskinned black person on how EVIL WHITE PEOPLE CAN BE and will completely shun that race and behavior especially if they are a hybrid!!!...
I have to disagree with *** and chocolate. Rhianna, Beyonce, Aaliyah, and Rhianna do represent all of the different angles of black beauty. I mean black beauty is diverse, complex, distinct from our different skin tones, hues, hair texture, and figures. We are not one type of look, and it’s almost silly to imply that.
She's so gorgeous. . .
@emmett well this girl doesn't care who BM choose to date/marry. If a black man wants to date outside his race or date a light skin girl, that's his business. I already have me a BM so im not worried about the next niqqa. And majority of the time it's the females that can't get a man that's always complaining.
@bluboy: who the he!! imitates Beyondfake? get real. if anything everyone imitates Janet Jackson (brown skinned) and Diddy (dark-skinned) don't make me laugh. As far as light-skin there is a drunk dumb ghetto tar black girl with a tar black family in my neighborhood who has a so called "light-skinned" daughter and the daughter is not smart and ghetto JUST LIKE HER MOTHER. SHE WAS SO DISRESPECTFUL AND FAST. WHEN WILL NEGROIDS LEARN THAT THE ONLY ONES IMPRESSED WITH SO-CALLED LIGHT SKIN IS YOU. YOU ARE STILL A NEGROID. NOT A ALL DARK SKIN IS NEGROID.
Beyonce is 1/4 french & 1/4 cherokee indian, Rihanna is 1/4 irish & something else (I forgot) and Aaliyah was 1/2 native american (I think). I don't think they are the best reps for black beauty. The average black person does not have those types of mixtures, sub-mixed or not. And not all black americans are mixed either, I'm tired of statements like that, until that's proven I don't think anyone should say all or most blacks americans are mixed, it hasn't been proven.
emmettmays85: None of these women would give you the time of day, And Gabby and Meagan are not losing any sleep with you thinking a woman that isn't even attracted to black men looks better than them, because they ALL look too good to bother with someone like you. the best you can get is the local 20 dollar *** or one of those 40 dollar an hour "exotic" escorts. Other than that you can even get a whiff of any of these chicks cooches, let alone touch them, so keep dreaming.
ha ha ha HATIANS ARE CREOLE TOO. LMFAO. YOU GHETTO FIGHTING FOR CRUMBS, GREEDY, DUMB, ILLITERATE, LYING, STEALING, KILLING, CHEATING, SLEAZY, SLIMY, GREASY, GRIMY *** HA HA. LOOK AT THIS ILLITERATE NEGROID: CREOLE IS A CULTURE/LANGUAGE, NOT A RACE YOU CLOWN. NOW MBUEHK BOWOERH BOOMBOIUH GUMBO BREATH BEACH. LMFAO STUPID NEGROID
LMAO @ black men that could never in a million f.uck the women they call themselves judging. None of those beautiful women would bother with any of the dudes on this forum, light or dark. You'd be lucky to get a job scrubbing the sh!t out of their toilet for a living. You'd probably be making more doing that then the sh!tty non-paying jobs you have now. Oh, I forgot, most black males are unemployed, you don't even have that lol!!!!
*** AND CHOCOLATE; WHY DOES BEYONDFAKE AND HER MOTHER *** E V E R show their real hair, have nose jobs and several other surgeries. how many mixed women wear fake hair 24/7? my mother is 1/2 native american and SHE HATES FAKE HAIR, NEVER TOUCHED MAKEUP IN HER LIFE, AND WAS BORN WITH AN HOURGLASS(TOP AND BOTTOM) FIGURE. POOF BE GONE.
emmettmays85: I know you get hoes, I already said that. The local 20 dollar battle scarred *** you pay for your lonely friday *** and the 40 dollar an hour exotic escorts you pay for after you steal money from your grandmama's purse.
That don't mean sh!t, ALL of those women you mentioned are WAY TOO beautiful for you. Just continue buying the magazines and photospreads they're on and beating off to them in the bathroom. That's the closest you'll get to f.ucking any of them. Did I mention suburban biracials don't date blacks moat of the time if ever, and that more non-suburban ones are opting for non-black partners as well? Good luck finding one that doesn't charge per hour, lord knows you don't have any money to spend to keep renting the used up ones lol!!!!!
@***-and-chocolate MOst of the attractive females I've mentioned will end up getting themselves an UGLY but rich or wealthy man like I've stated before...like BEYONCE is with JAY-Z...MOst of you females can't tolerate a man thats prettier than you!!...and MEAGAN GOOD and KERI HILSON are more examples of BLACK BEAUTY whether you like it or not!!!...JUST BECAUSE YOU can't live up to their BEAUTY doesn't mean to should try to NEGATE their BLACKNESS!!!....
I personally don't agree with her but that's her opinion. I think it is wrong to only view yourself how the world views you. That makes you weak to me. I'm multiracial and proud of it. I will never deny my family no matter what the world says. And secondly the reason I started saying I was multiracial is because black people always asked me, "What you mixed with." White people assume I'm black and have never questioned me but the people I most identify with are always on my case.
OMG, NOW THIS BEACH IS NATIVE AMERICAN. IM SOOO SICK OF THESE LYING, CLONING, FRAUDULENT, COUNTERFEIT AZZ IDENTITY THEIFS. CAN I GET A WITNESS, ?!? SINCE WHEN IS THIS FUGAZI NATIVE AMERICAN. BEACH STOP STALKING ME, STOP FOLLOWING ME, STOP COPYING ME, STOP EMULATING ME, STOP IMITATING ME BEACHES. TAKE YOUR LYING, STEALING, COUNTERFEIT, PLAIGERISM AZ THE DEVIL IS A LIE!!!
@emmett ok I read it wrong. . . I was about to be mad @ you for that comment. . . Lol I'll ease off hehe. But yea the ones that can't get or keep a BM be hating when they see em with someone lighter. . .it's 2010 last time I checked your allowed to date/married who you want. . .unless it's same *** you might have to go to another state if your state doesn't allow you. . .not that I agree with that last part I said but it ain't my business either. . .
@ burntdarkmeat I'm starting to think ur that 4th member of DC that got kicked out. Beyonce is creole (different from me) so she can claim it if she wants. As far as me Im part Cajun bittch, so quit disrespecting my culture. The British kicked my ancestors out of Canada in the 1800s. Most of them settled in Lafayette, Louisiana. Anyone descended from these people are called Cajuns. A lil history lesson 4 ur dumbazz. I thought u were not going to visit this site anymore?. Don't address me anymore cus I don't speak hoodrat. Toodles Trash.
Although I do agree with her on the fact that most people will identify biracial people as black, and I do identify more with my "black side", I still consider myself biracial. Saying that I'm black only is like I'm denying half of myself and heritage. I don't think what she is doing is right or wrong, it's her personal decision and should be respected.
SHES MIXED SO SHE CAN CHOOSE WHO SHE WANTS TO IDENTIFY WITH. MY DAD IS KOREAN AND MY MOM IS BLACK AND I STILL SAY IM BLASIAN WHEN PEOPLE ASK WHAT I AM BUT I NEVER MARK DOWN " OTHER ". BUT IF SHE CHOSE TO IDENTIFY AS WHITE ALL THE BLACKS WOULD BE MAD. I HONESTLY THINK SOME BIRACIAL PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO ONLY IDENTIFY AS BLACK ONLY SAY THAT TO PLEASE BLACKS THAT THEY DONT KNOW BUT HEY THAT JUST MY OPINION
I like Paula and I think she is beautiful, but I totally disagree with her on this one. I don't believe a person should have to deny one part of them because the other part is black. If your mom is white, then you are part white--you are not all black, you are technically biracial. It is what it is. It’s like she’s denying her mother. Now when people act like it's better to be biracial than full black, then that is where the problem lies. It doesn't make you better, just a little different. And for some reason a lot of black people think that mixed people think we are better because of that. I’ve never felt that way. I’ve struggled to fit in at times in my life because of my mixed heritage. There have been times that if I could just say I was black and get away with it, I would just so that I wouldn’t’ have to be scrutinized and picked apart as I have been too many times. Although I love everything that I am, I can’t go around *** I’m mixed and proud because in the black community that is frowned upon for some odd reason. It’s ok to be black and proud, but not mixed and proud. I really don’t get that. Furthermore, I find that some black people don't accept mixed people as black anyway. Some do, some don't. I've been called “not black” on here several times despite the fact that my mom is Sicilian and my dad is black/Puerto Rican. But unfortunately, that is not “black enough” to some so whatever. In that case, if I’m gonna be made to feel like an outcast just because I’m not “all black”, then yeah I’m claiming mixed over being black. If you say your mixed, then people say you’re not black, and if you say you’re mixed, then people say you r denying your blackness. It’s like you can’t win either way. Just my own personal experience and opinion.
- TRULY I THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE COMMENTIN ON HOW MUCH THEY LIKE HOW PAULA SAYS SHE BLACK AND NOT ANYTHING ELSE IS JUST JEALOUS OF THIS WOMAN AND HYPOCRITES. WHY BE PROUD OF SOMONE ONLY SAYING THEIR BLACK WHEN DEY GOT A WHOLE NOTHA HALF. IF PAULA SAID SHE LIKES TO BE KNOWN AS MIXED ALL U WOMEN PROTESTING WOULD HATE HER BUT SINCE SHE CLAIMS BLACK ALL OF U LIKE HER. SICNE U THINK OTHER PEOPLE WILL VIEW HER AS BLACK AND NOT MIXED DUE TO ALL OF YALLS SELF ESTEEM ISSUES. AND DAS DA TRUTH-
Are you serious? Give me a break. Why can white ppl or latin people say 'I'm Irish & Italian' or 'I'm Puerto Rican & Dominican' but this chick wanna say she's black only? She must've been through some serious ridicule growing up. Is one of her parents asexual? That's the only way you can claim only one side because you are comprised of whatever your parentS are. And I don't subscribe to that ignorant believe that some racist *** created about that one drop rule. You don't hear for no one else about that one drop makes you Russian or one drop makes you Indian.
I agree with *** and Chocolate. My most African- Americans aren't mixed with anything. For the most part, most African-Americans look West African. ONLY 20 TO 30 PERCENT OF African-Americans have genetic admixtures of European and Indian(including myself, and I'm darkskin). So if you have over 60 percent "African" that means youre black. If we are " so-called "mixed"(I hate that term), Why we don't we look like Arabs ( who are a"so- called mixed of African and white ancestry due to colonization, intermarring,)We are African. Don't let the wigs, perms fool you.
"if you're mixed than people say you are denying your blackness, and if you say you are black people are gonna say you are not black"
@sicilatina so true that has to do with the schizophrenia in the black community!!! THE BLACKS THAT DESCENDED FROM ONLY WEST AFRICANS are a JEALOUS, STUBBORN AND ENVIOUS group of people!!!...
The one drop rule & Jim Crow laws r illegal now. My lil cousin is black & white. Her birth certificate doesn't have a race on it. Her parents are going to let her decide when she's older. Her white father is quick 2 say do not call her black, she is black & white. I can't blame him for her not wanting to claim him 2.
Whateva. This is another way for biracials to rule the black community. To say " O im black " knowing they view themself as mixed. Biracial mutants should not claim black. They dont go through the same struggles and the black community doesnt view them as black. So saying " Im black " just makes them more available to be advertised everywhere. Than just in the white community. But basically to replace a actual african american. Look at Beyonce. Prime example she says shes black when convenient and takes all the black movie roles from actual black actresses but yet she advertized everywhere in the white community wearing her blonde weave and lighter makeup and claims mixed when asked her race by whites. This is what I call "claiming black when convenient"
light skinned blacks are still black. they're dark compared to whites-not to each other. smdh at the coons intra-racially segregating then crying "white man this ,white man that". some whites are whiter some are darker THEY ARE ALL STILL WHITE AND NEVER SAY OH I DON'T LIKE OLIVE COMPLEXIONS ONLY PORCELAIN YOU ARE A SORRY GROUP OF WHINING LOSERS. SMDH
To all the people saying 'Oh whatever people think you are that's what you are'. That' is sooo stupid and ignorant. All my life ALL my life, people thought and still think I'm Puerto Rican, Dominican, Brazilian even Cuban. Some people even ask me if I'm 1/2 white. I don't have a drop of latin/spanish blood in me, I'm black; but according some of you people on here I'm supposed to subscribe to the 'whatever ppl think you are' belief right?
@chocloluv97 and anybody else who agree with her. she said if ur parent is one full race and the other is another race then you can't be or claim one race??? uh hello did you know bout slaves 400yrs ago everybody pretty much born in america is mixed even if both ur parents look to be one race they mixed sum where down the family tree. Example: Two Black parents have a child that child could be light skin cause generations do skip sumtimes so that light skin could come from a grandfather or great grandmother. Listen if ur not born from the motherland(africa) or parents are not african then STFU
BEACH YOU CAN FOLLOW ME TO MY FAMILY REUNION. STARTING WITH MY 90YR OLD RED, BIG ROUND FACED, SLANTED EYED, HIGH CHEEKBONE NATIVE AMERICAN GRANNY AND ALL OF HER MULATTO SISTERS AND NIECES. "HEY ISN'T THIS EASY" SOME OF THEM ARE WHITER THAN MARIAH. IN FACT, SOME SAY THAT I REMIND THEM OF A COLORED MARIAH.
THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT PAULA!!!
I relate to her completely, Don't call me no f_kin biracial I'm black. F_k all that other extra ***.
Most biracial people want to separate themselves from african americans though. These mother f_kers are straight tripping, especially when some of them made that *** " I'M BIRACIAL NOT BLACK D_MN IT!!!!".
Go to a kkk rally and call yourself biracial, at the end of the day you will still be viewed as a n_gger. Accept it, love it, embrace it and stfu.
And @ blackqween im so sori if that is ur avatar u don't look so dark ur self so first PAUSE!!! u said Biracial mutants WOW so u think u are 100% black Okay then grass is blue and the sky is green for real!!! ur too old to even make a childish statement like biracial mutant grow up for real its twentyten get out the 70's with that BS!! glad i don't know u i would be ashamed to be a friend of family member WOW!!!
I HAVE A DARK SKINNED COUSIN HER HAIR IS LONG AND BLACK AND SILKY LIKE WEAVE AND HER KIDS TOO. LIGHT SKINNED THAT YOU BALD-HEADED SCALIWAG. I HAVE BROWN-SKINNED COUSINS WITH GREEN EYES EVEN THOUGH THEIR DAD IS BLACK. MY LITTLE COUSIN LOOKS LIKE MYA BECAUSE MY GRANNY IS MULATTO/INDIAN. BEACH BE GONE AND STOP TRYING TO BE ME !!!!
@chocoluv97 baby u just don't get it if two africans have a baby then that baby is black. other then that if u are taking bout two african-american born ppl from america more then likely sori to say it sum where in that persons family tree a family member was raped during the slave trade pls do ur research sweet thing no disrespect to u just stating facts. that bein said everybody has sum form of mix genes in their DNA technically speakin im not sayin that light skin child is mixed the child is still black
This chick is gorgeous but that quote doesn't make sense, you are what you are. The world can see you as alot of things but that don't make it so...when biracial people label them self as Black its a double edge sword because all though our strength in numbers increase, we create division base on the skin color and physical appearance spectrum. Terms like high yellow and red bone are created, it forces a African American males/females to compete with their biracial counter part.
SHE MADE THE EXACT SAME POINT AS TIGER, IN REVERSE. THEN THEY GET IN TIGER'S FACE TRYING TO TELL HIM WHAT HE IS AND DON'T EVEN KNOW HIM. NEWSFLASH: THERE ARE BROWN SKINNED ARABS, INDIANS, HISPANIC, HAWAIINS, ESKIMOS, ETC. WHY WOULD YOU TRY TO TELL SOMEONE WHOM YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THEY ARE? BECAUSE YOU'RE GHETTO, ALWAYS IN SOMEONE ELSE'S BUSINESS(ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE'S MONEY INVOLVED) AND HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO. I GUESS YOU KNOW HIM BETTER THAN HE KNOWS HIMSELF? UGH SHE'S STILL HALF WHITE AND HAS A WHITE HUSBAND.
@debbeebeee...WRONG...some white people refer to obama or alicia keys as mixed/biracial because they view them as doing something extraordinary..they think its their white side that compelled them to "great heights"..now show them a pic of a mixed brother doing a drug transaction..or a mixed sista in hunts point sellin ***..bet my bottom dollar them same whiteys would be callin em black..or black ***!ggers. real talk.
Historically White people have disowned biracial people anyway. They never wanted them and they placed the one drop rule in society to separate themselves from mixed race people.
I never will understand why some biracial people say " well I have a white parent so call me biracial". That white parent might love you and cherish you but in reality the white race in general doesn't want your azz. These are the facts, it is not about disowning one side of yourself it is about being " REALISTIC"!!!
Blacks in America are often defined by stereotypes but just because we are defined by stereotypes mean we have to agree with them NO! Blacks use the One Drop rule to their advantage, so does Whites. Your average Black person doesn't have features that are characteristics of other ethnic groups Like Europeans..so when a Black person has them by being mixed, it puts the idea that this is what Black person should look like when it isn't so. European features signify beauty in the USA, so when a Black person, especially a woman has them by being mixed, it makes non mixed Black women feel insecure.
@MYMINDISNAAASTY hey Tranny U have a AIDS infected *** as your profile pic and u trying to talk LMFAO!!! I have yet to see yo ugly *** on here...the ugly bytches be the first to run their dyck sucking mouths about people *** when they to ugly to reveal themselves. You're a tired *** h0e with lame jokes, this will be my last time talking to u because u truly are a stupid, lonely bytch with no life
For my fellow ignorant mixed people claiming the biracial title do you think african americans should be considered biracial as well?
After all more then 80 percent of african americans carry european and native american ancestry. African americans don't look anything like their west african counter parts.
Biracial people need to consider themselves black, it is the only logical thing to do.
If not african americans should be called biracials as well, they aren't full black either
i don't find the term biracial offensive at all and she can consider herself whatever she wants but she didn't have to make that sterotype/generalization about all ppl who claim their biracial stuck up and just because the world sees you one way that doesn't mean you should let that define who you are... the world sees black ppl as alot of things lol
I don't really understand why her opinion is ruffling so many of y'all feathers. If she wants to identify as being black so be it. That's more than a lot of 'pure' black people do. I know SO many 'pure' black people who try and claim they are mixed with another race. At least she's proud to say she is black. being mixed myself, I identify as being black. Why? One reason being when people look at me they assume I am just black. Another reason being, I am not familiar enough with my mother's side to even try to identify with it.
Oh and another thing, I know most of you have seen on standardized tests where they have the part where you mark your ethnicity...I have yet to see one that says 'multicultural' or 'biracial' and I *** sure wouldn't put other. So naturally I marked black. If I was to EVER mark white I'm 99% positive my teachers would give me the side eye. Bottom line though let her choose to identify with what she wants. It's what SHE is comfortable with, not what everyone else wants her to be comfortable with.
@NikkiLaFleur
I agree with you as well, my mother's nationality is puerto rican but her ancestry goes straight to spain. She looks like a white woman, however I still consider myself black because I have a black father.
I see a lot of black people with two black parents trying to claim ancestry of another race from 5-7 generations ago. Paula seems to take pride in calling herself black unlike some other african americans.
Everyone knows if a bi-racial person look black, this how society will view them regardless of their DNA and linage. Black is very dominate, so it's kinda hard for majority bi-racial children to claim their white side unless the child can pass for white, which rarely happens in most cases unless both the parents are bi-racial and have dominate white features.
Tekeyah Flag post I agree with *** and Chocolate. Don't let the wigs, perms fool you.
co-sign. No one has proven that all or most black americans are mixed. That's straight up unproven ***!t.
Biracial people should just accept BOTH races instead of acting like one race is better than the other, I know some biracial kids at my school, one only accepts being black and makes racist comments to white kids, even though he's half white, and one mostly accepts being white, he even does his hair like a white boys with the spikes, gel, and everything. There's nothing wrong with being called biracial, just when you don't accept who you are and what you are.
In actuality biracial people can considered themselves whatever they want, but in reality their biracial. This is simple science. For example: I love apple juice. If u give me cran-apple juice & try 2 pass it off as apple juice, I would spit it out, cus I would taste the cranberries in it. It's not gonna taste the same & it's gonna have different characteristics.
@*** *** chocolate OMG!!! "nobody proved that most or all african americans are mixed thats straight up unproven ***!t" WOW whoever made that statement, need to invest in a african american 101 @ ur local college u know u just told on ur self how ignorant u just are and how u must have no college education at all. because simply put if u went to college how could u not take african american history as a elective just to know where we all come from because u know they don't teack that in pubic schools the truth anyway has to be paid for.
if the woman wants to say she's black for the sake of argument...whats the big deal. and she is right...most blacks that want to claim bi-racial have issues and are looking just to throw it in the face of other blacks...as if its some sort of 1-up. i swear...niccas always want credit for some sh!t they ain't have nothing to do with...like being born of mixed races. shiddd....i get that u look mixed sh!t all the time and never once think of running with that idea...cuz its not how society as a whole views me. i'm sure becuz of my hair and light complexion that some where down the line something was mixed in, but society as a whole sees me as black so who other than other niccas that have issues of being viewed as black would i be proving a point to by arguing otherwise. matter fact...my wife is dark-skined and has long curly so called "good hair" down to her azz...and gets pestered all the time from other niccas about being mixed. so its like only other ignant niccas seem to care about it...cuz she and i have never been asked if we were mixed by any other race. smh
@realtalk3000: no probably because some blacks are racist and want to know why everyone doesn't hate whites and blame all their problems on "the white man". Also, people that are biracial/multicultural don't give a sh!t what race you are, they will not make excuses for you just because you're black or white.
that is the most ignorant *** i ever heard. this is why racism is still alive in todays world. you are black and white its not that hard. people wanna use that kinda *** for their own personal gain. I want to know why she is denying being white and what her white family thinks. if you cant accept your own race or ethnicity how you expect others to?
Ha You People not all but alot you guys are sad? why are americans so obsessed with race? Get the fu--ck out of other people's biz... Scientists prove that most black people are mixed. It's already been proven so *** the hell up.. And to all these biracial *** fu--ckers *** the fu--ck up. If PEOPLE WANT TO SAY THEIR BLACK.. *** UP YOU CAN'T CHANGE SOMEONE'S VIEWS... MOST BIRACIAL PEOPLE(EXCEPT ME AND A FEW OTHERS) ARE SAD. I SAW THIS VIDEO ON YOUTUBE WHERE PEOPLE WERE LIKE I'M NOT BLACK I'M BIRACIAL DAMMIT... IT'S LIKE IF YOU WE'RE CALLED WHITE.. OR ANOTHER RACE YOU WOULDN'T MIND.
And that's why there's some people right now who look white and they claim themselves white... No one wants to be black. That's why the word biracial is there... like I said before look at Leona Lewis? None of her boyfriends in her videos are black. EVERYONE IS MIXED.. HOW DO YOU THINK ANGELINA JOLIE GOT HER LIPS?.... AND I ALSO SEE ASIANS WITH FULL LIPS... AND THAT GUY THAT WAS LIKE IF I LOOKED AT PAULA I WOULD SAY SHE'S BIRACIAL? HOW THE HELL CAN YOU TELL SHE'S BIRACIAL?..How? EXACTLY..
I understand where Paula is coming from and most multicultural Blacks I've spoken to feel the same way, including my mother. She comes from a very multicultural lineage as well. Her mom was of Native American, West Indian, and Argentine decent. Her dad's family are Mulatto. It just so happened that my mom and her sister and brothers ended up looking either biracial or Native American. I can remember going out with my mom when I was a kid and people would speak Spanish to her thinking she was Puerto Rican because she's so fair skinned.
Can't knock her for her opinion, we all have one...but I disagree! The term "biracial" doesn't sound offensive to me. It sounds like what it is...which is biracial. I can see how the term "mutt" or "half breed" and *** like that could be offensive, but "biracial" is the correct term for what it is. And yeah, most mixed people just wanna be seen as just black, which I fell if you truly love yourself then you would accept yourself just as you are, meaning acknowledging your white side too. Especially if your own mama is white!! Come on now. Embrace both sides.
She used to take offense to it because she felt it should've been obvious that she is Black...nothing more....nothing less...just Black.
I don't think Paula is wrong because some of these new-age biracial folks seem to think they're better than people who appear more Black than they do. None of this would have made a bit of difference during the civil rights era when they was killing people for being Negro...or even looking like they were.
Paula is absolutely right......She's a black woman.More than the one drop rule if you look black you be looked and judged as a black person and the title biracial isnt going to change anything.....hell we are all biracial. So basically if you are biracial and you look black than know that you are black because that is your dominant gene. Most black people accept biracial people its the other races that dont.
Halle Berry herself has repeatedly stated that she is "a Black woman with a White mother". And this is because of the many conversations she'd had with her regarding her heritage. Her mother told her that other's would not know she had a white mother unless she wore a sign that said so. So she told both Halle and her sister to embrace being Black.
While Halle has ALWAYS identified herself as a Black woman, the media didn't start acknowledging her biracial heritage until she won that Oscar for Monster's Ball.
Some of her white counter parts found it offensive when she dedicated her historic win to other famous Black actress of her day and past. I say....let people identify with what they feel more comfortable. While Paula LOOKS biracial, nobody would know that about Halle unless she told them. And I always thought if the father was Black, the child was considered Black as well?
WHAT ARE U TALKIN ABOUT. HALLE BERRY JUST SAID SHE WAS BIRACIAL WHEN SHE WAS GETTING INTERVIEWED ONT HE TYRA SHOW ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO SHE EVEN SAID THAT SHE WILL TEACH HER BABY HER CACUASIAN ROOTS ASWELL BEING THAT HER DAD IS WHITE AND SHE SAID HER BABY WAS " BIRACIAL ". SO NO HALLE DOESNT JUST SAY SHES BLACK SHE ALSO SAYS SHE BI RACIAL. HALLE ONLY SAYS SHE BLACK TO GAIN RESPECT FROM THE BLACK COMMUNITY. BUT SHE REALLY IDENTIFIES AS BI RACIAL
Whats so offensive about biracial? Why should the Cablasians etc..have to DENY their other heritage? I think PP generalized the reason some people do this-maybe to compensate for having a WM. *shrugging shoulders*
You mean to tell me if a girl has a white mother, a black daddy who is NOT around, she is raised in the midwest by all white people and has only white friends and the chick doesnt even like or acknowledge black people, you mean to tell me she's black? Black like me and my family black? Naw man. They could keep her.
I clown, but I appreciate PP's comments--still think she tryin to compensate though. Oh, wait, I forgot about Americas one drop rule. So technically even though the baby will be three quarters white, like Halle's baby, they are really Black. Wow how about that? Its like if you had a pie and cut it into four pieces; 3 apple and 1 slice cherry. Its still a cherry pie. Like magic or something.
I think it is an individual choice...She *** speak for all mixed race people though because people are entitled to call themselves according to their racial heritage. Some black people are obviously mixed according to their skin color and features and if they chose to acknowledge all sides of their heritage, they should be allowed to do that.
I didn't even know she was half Black.
Truthfully, I find the term "African American" to be offensive since we wern't born in Africa, we don't identify ourselves with Africans, our parents weren't born in Africa. Since when does the word American only mean "white"? When was the last time you heard the words "European American.
Lets face the facts, if you're born in the States you're American. If you're born in Africa and moved here, you're African American
Once upon a time people (white people) would have said President Obama was black, now they are quick to say he's NOT black, he's biracial...because they want to take that away from us. As if to say we don't have a black President. It's funny how that works now!
But whatever people want to call themselves, I don't care. As long as you like what you see, that's all that matters. Call yourself aquamarine if it makes you feel good.
Umm...I disagree and agree with this chick. I HATE when white people try to tell us what to call ourselves, and I hate when black folks try to tell other black folks what they should call themselves; meaning, I think bi-racial is fine. Why should I deny my Latina mama?? EFF THAT.
However, I HATE like when mixed blacks try to say whatever they can to DOWNPLAY the black side of them...if that makes sense. I call myself black for the most part but if someone wants more details, etc...I tell them what's up...my ma is Latina, my dad is black.
It's not that difficult, people.
First of all, many of Obama's critics do think of him as part white, mulato, light skinned. Google Harry Reid's comments.
Second, if a white person had said the same exact comment, many of you would be up in arms. Hey wait. Some did say that blacks and whites could never amalgate. We had a civil war and Jim Crow days to prove it.
Paula Patton should be ashamed of herself. She's ignorant, doesn't understand history, and is really an arrogant modern day "Uncle Tom" type.
Furthermore,if you don't want to be perceived as part Caucasian, why continue to put the extensions in.
***
@tamra
ON THE CONTRARY THE BLACK GENE IS NEVER DOMINANT.
THE WHITE GENE IS ALMOST ALWAYS DOMINANT.
ALMOST ALL MIXED PEOPLE ARE LIGHT SKIN. THEY ARE NEVER FLAVA FLAVS COLOR. THEY RARELY RARELY HAVE ANY BROWN IN THEIR SKIN.
THEY USUALLY HAVE A MIXED NOSE.
THEY USUALLY HAVE LOOSE TEXTURED HAIR.
WHEN A PERSON IS MIXED WITH WHITE THEY ALMOST ALWAYS LOOK MUCH MORE LIKE A WHITE PERSON THAN A BLACK.
EXAMPLE HERE WITH PAULA. TRACY ELLIS ROSS. KIDADA JONES. THEY LOOK A HELL OF A LOT MORE LIKE A WHITE PERSON THAN FLAVA FLAV.
I dont think Paula is directly bi-racial, she is like Beyonce, one African-American Parent and one that is highly mixed. I would assume that the interviewer was asking her about her mixed race child in her stomach. Her parents are both Afrian-American indentified. People keep trying to say she's half in half. She is just a African-American with some white and some Native in her blood line, like a lot of us.
HOT *** SOME OF YOU BLACK PEOPLE ARE REALLY STUPID. ESPECIALLY YOU BLACK AMERICANS. IM FROM CANADA (toronto) AND US BLACK CANADIANS ARE NOWHERE EVEN CLOSE TO BEING AS MESSED UP AS YOU. Bereal...ur so off! Most my features came from my black dad, and ms ross looks a lot like her mom 2 me! It doesnt take a rocket scientist 2 undrstand ur gna get features frm both parents no matter the race, my nose, forehead, lips, r from my dad, my hair, obviously a mixture, & ofcourse half white ppl r gna b light....we r half white! The white gene can be stronger, but so can the black, each situation is diff
s_alicia_s Flag post HOT *** SOME OF YOU BLACK PEOPLE ARE REALLY STUPID. ESPECIALLY YOU BLACK AMERICANS. @s_alicia_s The one-drop rule was invented to keep the white race pure, it was invented by white people, black people accepted it because we had no choice, or any mixed race person for that matter. No that the racial climate has slightly changed, a lot of black people go by that rule and a lot of mixed people. Race in america is a issue and their is still alot of racism here and people of color, black or mixed, are not treated always equal. A lot of white's see mixed people as black, you feel me? Their are parts of towns in the south that black folks know not to be at at nite, u understand?
She is ACTUALLY RIGHT.....PERIOD....... You dumb COONS who think you're white are only fooling yourselves, crackas laugh at your *** ASS the minute you leave the room!!! Be proud of being the ONLY race that others want to be; from music, style, lip injections, *** implants, tans, CRACKAS ENVY OUR MALE ORGANS!!! Good job Paula
I bet that baby gonna look white tho, most mxd chicks who have babies by a white guy have kids wit lil 2 no color, besides halle, her black genes must be strong. I have plenty of color, when it comes 2 features, my black side dominates, but wit color, it doesnt, my oldr 2 r half mexican, 1 wit green eyes & the othr looks str8 mex, my youngest dad is mxd like me & our son has NO color wit blk *** hair & big lips, none look white but @ the same time have no 2 vry lil color
To each their own but I find her explanation stupid. If she feels like she's a black woman, good for her, but don't claim that the word is offensive because it's NOT!! What if a light skinned black woman thought of herself as a white woman? Black people would be bagging on her for the fact that she doesn't acknowledge herself as black, but black people don't care when a biracial person doesn't acknowledge themselves as white. Look at this stuff both ways people!!
@MYMINDISNAAASTY I'm getting harass by a transsexual *** LMFAO! this *** funny to me...u have to come harder your jokes are as lame as yo dumb ***. What is the difference between her and Tisha Cambell? Paula Patton is just light skinned. She has two black identified parents, one I think was very mixed. Also, their are dark skinned black people that are mixed too. People fixate on color too much and think that lighter skinned blacks are more mixed when that is not always the case. If she was dark skinned, the question of her race would have never came up, even though she would have been dark with finer features.
@MANSEMINOLE, I usally like your posts but I don't get this one. Both Paula & Tisha are lightskin. Actually Tisha may be even brighter than Paula, although that is besides the point. But there is a big difference: Paula's Mom is in fact White. As far as i know, both of Tisha's parents are Black. So although they are both light women, Paula is directly biracial, not MGM (multi-generationally mixed). Tisha may have some mixture down the line and her parents may be mixed with other things, but her parents are not of two different races so she is a lightskin black woman. That is the difference.
CONT. And being light has nothing to do with being mixed because like you said, there are several shades of mixtures. Light skin is not an indication of being mixed race. For example, Samantha Mumba is a singer who is half African & Irish and she has a darker complexion. Most people that see her probably wouldn't think she is part white. I think it's moreso physical features that make people question whether someone's mixed or not, not skin tone alone. Then you have peole like Mariah Carey that has more caucasian features who(to me) doesn't look part black at all.
I like that on the Jeffersons sitcom back in the day they used a brown skin actress to portray the role of Jenny Willis (Helen & Tom Willis's biracial daughter). Jenny was not light and not the "stereotypical" looking biracial woman. But to me this was a good example that showed how biracial people can come in all colors.
Paula knows anything consider to be a lightie whitie can enter the black race and then take it over. White ppl aren't that stupid to let anyone take over their race. It will not happen. Even white ppl that don't have features like most white ppl aren't even excepted into the White race. Just keep it real...they don't want to be ran out by ***. It won't happen!
@ mizzkiki, yeah I see get why people don't get that there is a difference between being biracial meaning directly mixed with 2 or more races and being mixed down the line. Most people in this country are multi-generationally mixed. Anyone who descended from Africans, slaves, or Spanish countries (which is all of us) have some kind of mixture in their history. If that were the case everyone would be biracial! But being light does not mean you are biracial! That’s crazy! Or on the flip size, having silky hair, light eyes and keen features also doesn’t make you biracial. There are many black people who look like that who are not mixed. Biracial means that one parent is of one race and the other parent is of another. Not my great grand-mother was black and white and my great great-grandfather was white! People take that too far. lol That would mean you have some mixture in your heritage, but in our society you are not considered biracial/mulatto/mixed. Please. Beyonce ain’t hardly biracial!!! Her daddy is black and her mama is black. Her mom may be Creole or whatever, but she’s still considered black. Same with Aaliyah & Rihanna.
@Latina I dont think Paula is mixed like with two different parents is what I mean. She said that she is black, and I also heard that her parents were both black. What I meant by the comparison with Tisha Campbell is with then both being black with a light complexion. I believe Paula mother was just fair skin and their is no record of saying that she is half white, even in her bio's. She is black, just light skin.
Sorry for the typos, but I know that her family is from the south, originally Alabama if im correct. I know people that know her folks and I heard that they had pics of her family and Robin togher online and her mother appeared mixed, not her father so much, so she must be multigeneration mixed. Even though she is light, to me she dont have that im completely mixed to me look in her face, but she could definately pass as half and half, kinday like Beyonce. They both look mixed in most way's but not all the way. I grew up around a lot of mix people and dated one, and I can mostly tell.
@MANSEMINOLE, I understand what you mean. I was going by what the story says, and it says that she claims her mother is white. So that’s what threw me with your lightskin comparison to Tisha. Now that information could be incorrect, we know that MTO is not always accurate! lol But if her mom is indeed white, maybe there is no record of her being biracial because like here, she considers herself all black so she doesn't make that known in interviews. I guess it's a matter of opinion because when I have seen her in movies and tv, she does strike me as a mixed woman. Beyonce on the other hand does not. She has a fake blonde weave and is light skin. To me she just looks like a lightskin black woman with a bad weave! Lol Not a biracial woman. But again I guess it is a matter of opinion based on experiences and the types of mixtures you have seen in your life.
90% of the people who comment on this site are ignorant. Swear you know it all. Quit speakin on someone who is mixed if your not mixed. The only thing you can do is speak for yourself. And stop hatin if someone is dating outside of their race. The world would be a better place if you mind your business and worry about yourselves.
@latina I feel you on your last comments, but I must say, I do view some multigenerational mixed black people as mixed, but just culturally and ethnically Black American. I myself have other races mixed in me, but I dont have a mixed black white look, more of a black native american mix look, but I do have some white ancestry, but I have more Native mixed in. I dont consider myself traditionally mixed, but if a person as me if im mixed, I say I have some Native American in me, but I leave out the European part, maybe its because Im brown skin and the Native mixture is more believable.
If She Don't consider herself to be Biracial then so *** be it.....What the hell is the Debate about? It's her choice.....***!!!! Everybody still with this COLOR $HIT.....that's some RETARTED $HIT!!! CTFU.......Who was around when they ANCESTORS WAS ***? Was ANYBODY on here THERE? NOOOO!!!!! Life is to *** for the RACE NONSENSE!!!! FOOLS!!!!!! :)
@jaming876, first of all I'm Sicilian Black and Puerto Rican ***. So the goya taco comments really don't phase me. I do consider myself mixed. Second, I have a bachelors degree from Drexel University in Anthropology, and a Master's in Applied Psychology from the University of Penn. Yeah that's an Ivy League school in case your stupid *** didn't know. So I am definitely not a "hoodrat"! LMAO I probably have more intelligence in my toenail that you have in your whole ditzy *** body ***. U are pure entertainment to me. I do research on *** like you who have a very low level of self-efficacy. Wait, you probably don’t even know what that is—go look it up ***. Having said that, uh I think I have been through several biology and micro-bio classes in my 6 years of post-secondary education. And I know all about genes and alleles. You can have two parents who are BLACK both with brown eyes and produce a child with BLUE eyes if the gene is recessive. In the case of my husband, his great-grandmother on his dad’s side was white with blue eyes. However my husband is NOT mixed. He is only 1/8th white and that does not constitute being biracial in our society. Idiot ***. So yes he got his blue eyes from his great-grandmother but he is still black. Where in our society does 1/8th of something equal biracial? U are a complete idiot. Why don’t u go back to school and further your education since you’re always on here running off at the mouth with some hogwash shi*t that you saw on the discovery channel trying to prove an invalid point. Fcukin ***.
Okay, she's having a baby by a white man, she's bi-racial whether she likes the word or not...how does Mr. Thicke feel about this? I think its wrong to make people choose. If I want 2 acknowledge the egyptian/creole side of me, does it make me less Black or make me ashamed of my Black side? No!! I embrace all of me and I leave my race blank on paperwork. Just don't try to make me choose.
I find you, Paula Patton to be offensive. You make it sound as if being called black and white is an abomination. You are able to enjoy the priveledges that you experience because of a significant number of white and near white American patriots who both marched and fought to put us on a color blind trajectory. Not to mention the affront to your in-laws who were open hearted enough to embue their son with a color blind sensibility. I'll be praying for that life inside of you. How sad for him to be born to such a myopic and ungracious parent. A bigot and a conceit all rolled into one.
What she probably meant to say, is that I find the "reference to me" as bi-racial offensive.
Nonetheless, if she prefers to be called black, so be it. Just don't imply and try to influence the culture insiduously that other bi-racials, whether they are white-dominant and just call themselves white, or tawny skinned beauties must follow your race paranoid sensibilities. It's 2010 Paula not 1810.
well some people ACTUALLY THINK that saying biracial is acknowledging BOTH . saying ur black isnt.
so what makes her any diff from the ppl who dont acknowledge their BLACK side and just identify themselves with ONE RACE???
yall would talk about THAT PERSON like a dog tho right? right! "HOW DARE SHE NOT ACKNOWLEDGE HER BLACK SIDE????!??!?" stfu
Actually, quite a few mixed-race people would agree with Paula's feelings on the issue, particularly those of the older generation. I am mixed-race, myself, the daughter of a light-skinned Black mom and Italian-American dad, and I consider myself both Black and Mixed-race. I don't see the problem nor the conflict with viewing myself as African-American like some mixedrace people seem to. As for the term 'biracial' being offensive, although I don't really have a problem with the term, I can see why it could be viewed as divisive. Light, dark or in-between, we're all the same race.
