@fabulousweetie, I don't have all the answers for every individual situation, but what I have seen (and I have been guilty of this myself) is women subconsciously belittle Black men by highlighting what they don't do and who they are not. Black men need our support as much as we need theirs. I think I've said this before here, but my husband earned minimum wage when we began dating and I earned a pretty comfortable salary at the time, owned my own home, etc. But I saw potential and nurtured it by highlighting who he WAS, rather than what he didn’t have. Now, he owns a business and brings in more than I do. I am his help-meet. I respect him. And because of that, he respects and provides for me. Even when I am less than perfect, he still sees every beautiful thing in me. When we lose that mutual respect for one another, we lose genuine love. Back in the day, women would never disrespect their men, at least not in public. I was taught that by older married women. And those are the couples who stayed married forever. We look at that today as being subservient, and a negative. It was actually what held our communities together and to a higher esteem than what we see today.
