Unless it is the law, as is in certain Middle Eastern countries, for women to cover their hair, you don't just throw on some customary clothing just because you're in a foreign land.
Actually, if you don't truly understand the origin and meaning of what you are wearing, you are inadvertently making a mockery out of the custom you are trying but failing honor.
For example, P. Diddy performed a concert in Scotland not too long ago. He preformed in a Kilt, because it is customary for some Scottish men to wear Kilts. However, some Scottish men perceived this as mockery, because Diddy's black a.s.s. is no where nears being Scottish. And they are right, why is this turd wearing a Kilt, is he trying to mock us or respect us?
It's like back in the mid 90's when white boys were so desperately trying to be down with the hip-hop movement, and started dressing like your homeboys from around the way. They looked stupid and desperate, and many black hip-hop enthusiast found it to be a mockery.
It's simple, if you are not from a specific culture, and it is not the law to wear, or not to wear certain articles of clothing, don't. Wear what you would normally wear in your own country, because some may take offence at your so called --trying to show respect-- efforts.
