Serena Williams looked stunning at Sunday night's Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party – but, privately, the tennis ace was struggling with a serious health scare that took a dramatic turn on Monday.Williams, 29, had been spotted at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles several times over the past week. When contacted about the visits, Williams's rep, Nicole Chabot, confirmed the athlete's heath status.
"Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation," the rep says in an exclusive statement.
"Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism [a blood clot in the lungs] which was discovered upon her return to L.A. She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot."
The rep added, "Doctors are continuing to monitor her situation closely to avoid additional complications."
She had to have emergency surgery to address pulmonary embolism. My prayers & well wishes go out to herself, friends & family.

@TheRose I agree, ppl always assume that fat/obese ppl are extremely unhealthy, lazy or whatever. But the truth is that very physically fit ppl (like Serena Williams) encounter health scares too. @Tastysis I take coumadin too. It's an extremely annoying med but we gotta do it to prevent those clots which can lead to heart attack and/or stroke.
*MTO is so stupid! A pulmonary embolism {PE}is NOT a disorder! It is serious but if shes already had treatment then she will be fine...people have PEs all the time they get medical attention and then they are fine. A disorder it is NOT. Isn't it ironic that a woman who spent her entire life training to be the best in the tennis world and conditioned as a top athlete with the outward appearance in body to match is now reported to be in such poor health today? It just goes to show that you can never really tell from looking at a person at first glance if they are the perfect picture of health, but I do wish her good health, because without it none of her other accomplishments will even matter. The only thing that matters in this life "PERIOD" is our overall health!

First of all, medical centers cannot disclose any info due to HIPPARCHUS laws and second if She would have suffered from a pulmonary embolism, Ms. Williams would have died INSTANTLY! You don't die instantly or should I say automatically... iN Severe cases sudden death (collapsing or extremely low blood pressure) can occur though..
