"Independent Women" was a concept GIVEN to them with the movie "Charlie's Angels" so that was an easy wave to ride. A song with a hit movie as a vehicle to usher in the song.

Beyonce can sing but I need another women's anthem like I need a hole in the head. All this independent and 'don't need a man' *** leads to ***. I'll keep it real, I need a man in the sense that I need a man to 'run'(make him feel like it hehe) the household and be there to raise our son and daughter. U can't do it all by yourslef. Anyway speaking of new sounds/trends, I remember how every time Aaliyah came out with a new album she always had a new sound, thanks in part to Timb. I miss her.....
ummm..I'm 33 so yes I remember Freedom, but that was for a soundtrack. I'm talking about female artists who mostly focuses on female empowerment on their albums. Doing one song does not make you an anthem artist. Beyonce has dropped countless hits that focus on Girl Power. Alot of her songs do that..I know she didn't "Create" female anthems, but she *** sure perfected it and it is noted that she is an Anthem singer.
What trips me out w/Bey is that she sings songs like this as if she has troubles @ home. We all know that Jay-Z worships the toilet she pees in and the ground she walks on. What struggles does she have? She's never been relatable in this sense as she hasn't really experienced "men" problems or let alone, wife problems. She won't sit down long enough to be a wife.
@Blakkat - I'm going to have to roll with you on this one to some degree. There's nothing wrong with "female" anthems. But, "female" anthems are supposed to help empower and uplift femininity. That's what makes you a woman. It's not just about looking like a woman, but your character is supposed to embody that too. I heard that the women in Beyonce's video gets all up in the men's faces. That's how men act. When women adopt an attitude like that of a man, it eats away at the "feminine" spirit which in turns makes you less of a woman and then you start thinking and acting like a man. When that starts happening, it can sometimes lead to ***. Have you noticed that most feminist women are *** anyway? We can be strong and uplift one another as women, but it doesn't mean that we have to become hard and lose that softness to us that sets us apart from men. Also, there's nothing feminine looking about this video so far. Beyonce looks hard, mean in the face and it looks like it has a military theme to it. It reeks of masculinity. Most women don't understand that being feminine is our "power". When you take that away, what are you left with? Besides, most men will tell you that being feminine is a turn on. Their drawn to it. Their attracted to it. What man wants to be with a woman who looks and/or acts like a man?

Back to the song, it isn't original and i really wish she would go back to R&B rather than this techno pop, but i suppose she has to appeal to her mainstream white audience. It does suit rihanna because thats the type of singer she is where as beyonce suits much better as an R&B artist.
