We here at MediaTakeOut.com are very DISAPPOINTED in the popular Black hair company Carol's Daughter.
Someone over at the company thought it would be a good idea to start a new campaign to "Redefine the color of beauty." And for the campaign they chose model Selita Ebanks (who is biracial), Cassie (who's mom was biracial and dad was Filipino), and Solange (who is light skinned).
Apparently this new campaign is part of a rebranding going onover at Carol's daughter. They're trying to move from the Black hair care market to serve the"Polyethnic" market. We have to say, this is a VERY disappointing development. . . .
Maybe cause the other shade of the black race is kissing woman
cassie is just beautiful
Sole looks a hot mess
I don;t see diversity anywhere .. HI JEREMY :D
*** like this *** me off.. Real beauty is skin deep.. And besides brown to
dark skin have the best quality skin color in the WORLD!! that is a fact!!
Whateva...Carol's prices went up, but the quality of products went down...where they do that at? NEXT!
That's a dam lie...Solange isn't light skinned but so *** what. They wouldnt be checking for you anyways...
BTW Carol's Daughters products are a good sell
I wonder if they utilize the brown bag test.
why does solo ALWAYS look a mess now? she needs a makeover. po thang.
THATS WHY BLACK PPL/ BUSINESSES DONT GET TOO FAR ON LEVEL AS OTHER RACES CAUSE THEY CANT EVEN BUILD UP OTHER BLACK PPL *** PUT THEM ON! EVERY ONE'S BRAINWASHED ON WAT BEAUTY SHOULD BE *** LOSERS! BALD JUMP OFF CASSIE, WASHED UP SELITA *** SOLANGE?! NUFF SAID!
That's how the industry is today. The closer you look to white, the better you are
in society and I know that's not right. I'm mixed Black and Puerto Rican and I get
a whole lot more respect than the average "black girl". I hate our society.
haters...! ha ha ha
Wow.. first of,thier *** is wack anyway. Sceondly, the fact that thier is not a beautiful darkskin women in that pic is lame. What is she trying to say, that the product is only for lightertone women. I am light skin and my mom is dark skin and I tell yall her skin is flawless and...she does not use that chet that was made out of a kitchen and hot wax. Boycott them we have the power to do it. I know none of these ladies use that cheap mess. Its propaganda . P.s cassie needs a new hair do.
im thinkin they chose these girls based off hair textures...not so much of color. though i wld like to see some darker skin ladies in the ad.
Cassie is gorgeous. THATISALL.
A pretty darkskin chic would have made that picture pop instead of cassie wack ***.
I love solange's hair
selita is rocking a weave so its not that its the fact that the company is colorstruck. Boycott them. I am sick about this sick that a jumpoff like cassie is in the picture. The world is crazy when being a jumpoff is profitiable
Solange looks like a clown.
No dark skinned Black woman was attractive enough???
GABRIELLE UNION? WHAT PLANET ARE YOU LIVING ON?
ALEK WEK LOOKS BETTER THEN ALL OF THOSE B!TCHES!
Well it's Official Now this will be the last Almond Cookie Stray I get Smhhhhhhhh
yea what a very "diverse" audience. Too bad a rep for an actual black girl isn't in there.
You see Black own start feeling themselves forget who got them where they are....Buh Bye Almond Cookie
27.00 for that lil *** bottle is a rip off anyhoo
All 3 of them hoes look like aliens
They didn't choose them b/c they were light skin
they wanted women who are made up of several ethnicities
i really hate it aint no dark sistahs to put in tha pic. its so many beautiful dark skin chicks they cuda put on. but nooo... they got salonge who lookin like sum'*** from tha color purple wit her washed up ***, then tha model on tha right look like a sum'*** from a bugs life to me cassie looks nice. but i guess thats whats poppin fa them rite...?
Too bad people will never be able to seperate skin color from hair texture like dark skin women can't have good hair texture-smh
heres the quote from Lisa Price the founder of the company
“What we’re doing now is moving into a polyethnic space. We want to be the first beauty brand that truly captures the beauty of the tapestry of skin types in America. When I say polyethnic, I mean women who are made up of several ethnicities. If you ask them what they are, they’re going to use a lot of different words to describe themselves. That’s in line with the Census data coming out — people are checking much more than two boxes. We believe we’ve put together a *** that celebrates many different ethnicities, to become a mirror of what America’s really becoming.[...]“They will serve as cultural ambassadors in bringing forth this acceptance that the definition of beauty is now colorless. There are no longer boxes of white, black, Latina, Asian. More and more women are checking the other box, they share the vision and embody the messaging in their attitude, appearance, projects and core values.”
According to Selita Ebanks...they were chosen because they each have different hair textures. However I have to say, as a person who uses Carol's Daughter products (and is brown skin), this new campaign makes me feel like CD products are no longer for "me". Unfortunately, sometimes black companies feel like they have to separate themselves from their ethnic origins in order to succeed. Let's see if this is proven to be true with Carol's Daughter.
I could of sworn they sold skin care products also....maybe I'm wrong *shrugs*
There are many variations of women of color and this pic promo is just showing 3 which is ok. They always had celebrity spokesmodels and endorsements from Mary J to Jada so why is this a big deal? The only issue I see here is showcasing Gonzo because these products clearly aren't working for her.
Solange isn't a ugly girl, she just looks like Lisa Simpson.....Especially in this photo. And I like how they positioned her in the back - the spot you get before you're no longer photo'd at all. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL NO MATTER THE SHADE. But the whole light skinned thing being glorified makes me sick!
Lisa Price is full of ***,if she really was for diversity, she could had also included dark skinned models for her campaign. I believe the creator of CD has a biracial daughter, maybe thats the true reason why she chose lighter skinned models for her campaign because they ressemble her daughter's likeness. I agree with Reboloution215,CD could had also featured Gabrielle Union too. Her fierce beauty alone would had overshadowed Cassie,Solange and Selita. Also Angela Bassett,Meagan Good,LeToya Luckett and Tasha Smith would had made excellent models for CD too.
Stop the bullsh*t MTO. Ok they're light skin or bi-racial. They're still black. Stop letting little sh*t keep us segregated amongst each other. Its ridiculous. Light skin blacks still went through the struggle. ***
I saw this ad the other day and I was saying that too like *** where's the brown sista at? This ad does the total opposite of what CD spoke person said it was supposed to it does'nt represent different woman it seems to me its saying light is right. I have a little of the hair milk after that I'm done with Carol's Daughter. Too expensive and not all that great!!!
The company creator is black and not light. Blacks come in all shades but she could have shown diverse hues. But side note... I dont like any of the products anyway. I have naturally curly hair and the products are a fail for me and the skin products arent that good either. Thus stuff was over hype from jump.
stop trying to act like we dont all come in different shades....and whether you are dark light or medium its hard to even find shades of makeup that go well with our different skin tones. I say more of the mainstream cosmetic companies(i.e covergirl, maybelline, revlon....) need to "redefine beauty".....lets diversify....Let Carol's daughter start with lightskinned women in their ads....hopefully they will keep moving down the color spectrum.
Why is it sooo expensive? I don't care who is on the package hell I can buy the shampoo, but no conditioner.
That's not fair.
Another case of blacks not knowing what light skinned is smh. The girls aren't that lighter than previous carols daughters models, marry j blige and jada.
By the way, what should be considered offensive is magazines always casting one black girl in a group photo to make "quota." she's not being casted on ability, she's been used solely on race. I rather an owner of a company pick her faves, then stick a very dark woman in for the hell of it.
DaYuM ItS $5.00 A gAllOn FoR GaS!
DaYuM Im wAy DoWn hEre......Follow Me @ SpaMover
they should have least put beyonce or sum other ppl not cassie shaved head *** and selita banks she not even all that thank u !!
and the problem is what?
Solange isn't light skinned.....
I bought her lotion *** hair milk one time *** was not impressed. In fact, her hair products put side by side with Mizani look *** smell the same...hmmm? *** e way, the census had nothing to do with markwting this brand. They r of poor quality *** wont sell based on product alone so what better way to sell to black folks...light, dark, nappy hair, straight...put some high yellow folks on da label. Some of us would by horse *** in a can if we label it for us by us *** put a yellabone on da cover.
This is messed up! Thanks whoever posted Lisa's statement. "Polyethnic?" You sellout! I am boycotting them. There are so many lines of haircare that address curls, biracial hair. Very few for black hair, and with natural ingredients. Black hair is different and I consider her a total sellout. She is doing well enough to have stores, be in Sephora, have Mary J and Jada as spokespeople... Only greed would give her this bad idea to sell out and serve the multiracial "new race". WHy not just put some honkies in an ad for bath salts if you want their business so bad? Carol's Daughter is making a bi
big mistake pandering to the "polyethnic" ***. Is there some agenda to dilute/ignore the Black race? Not everyone checks the "other" box Lisa, and I hope you don't!!
I totally agree with you, brotha.
The establishment, like Satan itself, never stops working. It has not relinquish its ultimate goal, which is to destroy the black race and to confuse the masses.
The spokesperson says the company wants to recognize diversity among blacks, but at the end of the day, Mr. Charlie and his clique still refuse to recognize diversity among blacks, for to them, they all are still ***.
The company is really concern with the dollar sign and is willing to do the establishment's dirty work--conquer and divide (regression is in full force).
Btw, I take it there were no black folks in tjat census report she used. If ur making a product strickly for folks of ethnicity, wtf does a census have to do with it???? She ***.herself in the foot with this one. Mixed folks not checkin for her products. *** y isnt Jada in the add?? Light enough but too old??? Carol's MAMMIE needs to sit down!
I mean if she wants non-black business so bad, market the body products to them. Keep the haircare rootsy. That's what succeeded and makes her unique. Anyhoo, maybe this was her goal all along, to go as mainstream as possible. After all look at her spokespeople.
There are plenty of beautiful brownskinned, and dark brown skinned models, and women, whom could have been used on this advertisement. Stop playing!! Personally, I don't like Carol's products. My daughter brougt all these products for her hair, and her hair smelled unappealing... to say the least. They cared not what she brought, as long as she spent money.. such a waste. Carol you have the means to provide good hair care then do so.
Solange's eyebrows #SHEESH
...her sis has the exact same eyebrows too but it's a lighter shade
I wouldnt listen to ANYTHING Cassie says about hair...she obviously had natural beautiful hair but you have to lead by example & she seems to make poor decisions
@TJ RIGHT?! as if Tatyana Ali & Keisha *** Pulliam wore wigs
Before we jump to conclusions and slam the company we need to first ask if this is a new product line or if this is replacing their old line (which I highly doubt). If it's new then their original line still exists for those us with the kinks, lol. But seriously, I don't see anything wrong with this. Polyethnic people have different texture hair. Why not market to them?
Funny...so...the color of beauty is supposed to be what? Hairweaves, braids that leave women bald, wigs, extensions??? Or, is the color of beauty "blurple"? Who cares? If you answered "me" or "I do", you're in need of finding more important things to concern yourself with.
It is a little offensive considering the fact that the product was supposed to be catering to women with curly and natural hair, I honestly don't see how Selita Ebanks and Cassie falls under that category. They would've been better off getting Lauryn Hill or Angie Stone.
Salonge isn't light skinned and what's wrong with mixing it up? why leave out the others?
Mary j not light skined nor is jada their brown skined this site good for starting ***
I'm not surprised. Mainstream media and even the music industry has been taking the Black out Blackness in their promotings for a long time; pay close attention to the commercials with Black women in them or Black little girls. Even have a few commercials of Black men with 'other' type of women as spouses.
Got light skin Beyonce on the cover of major magazinges wearing long blond hair.
The music industry as of late has only been promoting women with Beyonce's skin tone too; Beyonce, Rhianna, Mya, Keri. Darker sistas get some shine but none as heavily promoted as these women. Even MTO is quick to call a dark skinned chick some derogatory name then gush all over a light skinned chick.
Either yall are 2 sensitive or yall are just trying 2 start something...look at solange's hair...they showed 3 different hair textures...and redefining the color of beauty has nothing 2 do with the color of their skin...u made it about that...I really hate MTO now...I don't even know what keeps bringing me back here, maybe it's just 2 c what *** yall will come up with next
Carol's daughter is on its way towards selling-out. Like BET, JET, Essence, African Pride, etc Carol daughter will eventually sell out to Jewish/white control. We are the ONLY group of people that can't seem to hold on to ANYTHING-not even something as simple as hair care products. but Nothing against solange, selita, and Cassie but it seems like whenever there are mixed race entertainers (with black) that get rejected by WHITE hollyweird, they try to lap up at the BLACK market coattails and proclaim this LOVE of black or polyethnic. BUT the MOMENT one of them polyethnic peoples make it in Hol
Cassie, yo face gettin fat boo ...
Hollyweird, all of a sudden they no longer consider themselves "black" anymore. Pretty sure if Cassie was accepted in hollyweird or MTV she would be saying "polyethnic" what? But that's besides the point. The point is I'm tired as a black consumer of always accepting a supposedly BLACK product that has been watered down and white washed. Can't we as a black people have ONE thing that is exclusively BLACK? If ELLE, MADAMEOSEILLE, COSMO, etc can have a product that is almost exclusively white, why can't we have one that celebrates us exclusively without the mixed, polyethnic, and clasibasians t
blascians trying to take over our product. Not a racist at all just calling it the way it is.
I Never Heard of the hair product:/
I prefer Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding and Merengue anyway... Carol's Daughter is getting more and more expensive HOWEVER
I don't see 3 "lightskinned" women in the ad, I see 3 different hair textures... And u darkskinned ppl clowning lightskinned ppl are no better you both are still back and you're still ignorant for making a big deal out of something u have no control over
It's their company, let them brand it how they want it. They can market to whomever they want. If you people don't like it, don't buy it, or better yet, start your own company that markets to coal black, nappy headed a.s.s. women
Media Takeout don't act like you care, you are as much a part off the self haet as
carol's daughter. after you post 5 pics a week of amber rose, who is so untalented
and irrelevant, you then post one pic a week of jennifer hudson who is very
talented and relevant. but the difference is the more talented lady is black and
the untalented lady is biracial
All Of them look pretty
it's so sad to see that a lot of people in the world only think that light skin is beautiful. whatever happened to brown skin and dark skin. we are beautiful too. what are all the brown and dark skin girls gonna think when they get older. they are not attractive? its just so crazy. i am an up and coming DARK SKINNED model.
Sexychocolate95.....I fuxs witcha, send sum pics 2
Carol's Daughter made a bad move with this one, we have enough separation going on. They have a food product and it needs to be distribution a whole lot more than just the mall I tried to get a little boutique, they where not having it. Then I found out who was backing her at the time.
Now you know Black people come in more shades than THAT. That's a disappointment, shame on you Carol's Daughter...smdh
PPL ON HERE ARE SOO STUPIDD,HOW THE *** YOU GONNA SAY SOLANGE AINT LIGHT SKIN?? JUSS BECAUSE SHE AINT BLEACHY LIGHT LIKE HER MOMMMA, THERES DIFFERENT TYP OF LIGHT SKINS, SOLANGE TYPE AND ALICIA KEYS TYPE, THERES DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDUIM SKIN MEAGAN GOOD AND MARY JAY, AND THEN THERES DARK SKIN GABRIELLE UNION, AND THEN DEEP DARK SKIN ALEK!!! Solange is a considered a light skin black chick!!
it just saddens me people crying over color....be comfortable in your own skin....there is a place for all of us....no one has it all that easy no matter race color....any of that.
Solo is light for a black chick, but compared to the world she's dark. Let me guess you're around her skin tone and want to be considered light? Bahaha Im lighter than her but know my *** is still darker than billions of people. Why is it so important for black people to classify each other by color? Lets not get me started on the need to describe ourselves by food. Caramel brown, pecan tan, chocolate. Smh were all brown.
WTF? SOLANGE IS NOT LIGHT-SKINNED
Jarell lets let the colorblind color struck wannabe light people dream. Compare her to a white person and tell me shes light ll.
I don't see what's wrong they still considered black...
Umm if it's a company branded around black hair then the model choices have nothing to do with complexions. All three woman are still black and have different textures if hair. Not every lightskin broad like myself gas silky hair. My *** get nappy like Kuta Kintays pubic hairs. Bwahahahahaha
What's the problem here?? Carol's Daughter represented different hair textures in their ad. Cassie has that soft asian hair, Selita has nice relaxed hair and Solange has that tough kinky hair. Why are you ppl complaining?
The products are meant to display the vast variety that exists amongst black mixed women. True to form, MTO has decided not to include the article that explains the reason why this photo was taken to represent Carol's Daughter.
I GET MY HAIR DID AT THE SALON SO I DONT WORRY WITH THESE SCAMMING PEOPLES , SO BIAS !
I'm not supporting them anymore. Their products are too *** expensive. Who pays $30 for lotion? I'm going back to using African products like shea butter.
UMMM! How stupid can ya'll be? LOL!! Solange, and Jada are DEFINITELY lightskin! If they not lightskin then I don't know what is!! The term lightskin was coined for BLACK WOMEN of a lighter shade! Other races just started using it as people started mixing. Go look at a crayon box and look at the color brown, They are not brown!!! They are lightskin Black Women which the term was originated for. Ever heard of Redbone or yellowbone? Yes both shades of lightskin women. Like Yellow bone (Alicia Keys) and Redbone (Halle Berry). Both are lightskin women! That term was mad "only" for black women of a light shade! I swear ya'll get dumber and dumber every year. White women aren't considered light skin because, they are already "white skin". If your not white but lighter than brown yur "light skin"!!
N*ggas complain about everything
MTO, you are run by rabid idiotic monkeys. That IS NOT the intent of CD. The ONE MAJOR TREND right now
is to INCLUDE multi-ethnic people and their specific hair needs. CD has always had the support of african
americans, but with brand like "MIXED GIRL" hair care products coming out that cater ro Bi-racial hair
needs, CD is simply trying to angle for that market. CD IS NOT alienating the core AA demographic, but
ADDING a demographic that is usually looked over, and NOT taken seriously. *** off MTO!!!!
Asian hair is not soft. You guys been caressing way too many processed weaves.
and why all the arguing over SKIN HUE AND COLOR!!!!you people are pathetic and are PRIME examples why
Black People ARE NOT taken seriously in the world arena. And when we are, there is ALWAYS one of you
loud, ignorant , monkeys that will come and disrupt our progress with something stupid and ignorant. We
are judged as as a WHOLE PEOPLE, ( its not fair, but true), so get ya *** together people, so we can move
Seamonki i like how you think referring us to monkeys helps with progress. You set us back more than 400 years, try millions! You set us back a few on the evolutionary chart. Thanks.
And further more!! ( yes I am Carol's Daughter customer, and her Hair Milk makes my locs lovely, smelling
great, soft, and makes my hair grow soooooo fast!!, carol's Daughter is all over my bathroom, so *** yall)
Carol's Daughter WAS THE ONLY ORGANIC SKIN AND HAIR LINE DEDICATED TO US, NOT AVEDA,etc. Her
skin products are simply divine , and make my skin so soft and lovely. Yes her products are over priced,
but they have no perservatives, chemicals and are al natural, that means that I can use the same products,
and so can my baby!!.Black folks will find ANYTHING to talk about,..shame!!
Nothing wrong with showing the diferent shades and hair types of black women ...
Well I long ago stopped buying her products because they've gotten way too expensive over the years. I can find better at Bath and Body Works, even CVS.
As seaki mentioned, CD is likely focusing on the mixed race market, being that they are usually overlooked when it comes to hair care products. I've known a few mixed women who've had trouble finding products that will work for their particular hair type. So in that respect, CD is trying to tap into that market.
I'm not upset that these women were picked, but doesn't this make Mary the only dark one in the group? #Imjustsayin
The first comment Seamonki made had me thinking she worked for them but the third confirmed it. Nice suddalty.
*** I didn't know Selita was bi-racial I just thought she was an island gal ...
remarkable : call a spade a spade,.. i call it like i see it,.....people ( thats anybody you idiot, again why
must race be an issue) actin stupid and idiotic online or period = monkeys, if this dont apply to you, then
stfu,..but it probably does, thats why ya feeling hurt!
@SEAKI STFU please. You must be on unlicensed Carols payroll. In other news Carols daughters products stink. The body butter smells like a straightening comb. And people stop using these horrible products Cover girl misc. that are endorsed by money grubbing so called stars like Mary Blige Jada Pinkett and King Latifah. Stop making them rich when most of them use other products.
remarkable : i WISH I worked for Carol's Daughter, then i could my Hair mouse, My hair milk, my loc
butter, and all my other favs at a HUGE DISCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!! that would be fab. No ***!!! i am a loyal
customer that is proud of Carol's Daughter as a AFRICAN AMERICAN OWNED COMPANY FOR SELLING TO
OUR COMMUNITY A GREAT PRODUCT. Loyalty,..... thats what thats about baby.
Seamonki you clearly was calling blacks monkeys. Im not a moron like you, i can comprend well.
Seamonki who said i was black?
Im only an eighth black so i guess Im a lily ***
SistaSunshine: PLEASE miss thang talk about what you know, and stop assuming making an *** out of
yaself. I am a fashion designer, and consultant, and have done blouses and custom denim product for Mrs
Blige. I have been to her mansion in NJ, and in her bathroom and sitting room , guest bathroom, etc. all
you see is Carols Daughter Products. IN FACT when i was taken along to do the fitting, she SMELLED like
CD "exstacy" the perfume ( i have the same fragrance, its my fav). So yes she uses CD EXCLUSIVELY, AND IS
Seamonki has to be the worst ignorant person trying to seem intelligent ever. What's up with all those run-ons. And and and and. You're pathetic.
Seaki is MAD Carol is probably her MAMMIE!
remarkable: WTF IS A " eighth black " you silly ***,..what we using measuring cups to measure our
"blackness". I am from Sao Paulo Brazil, born and raised and I am BLACK!!!!! all day, all ***, its in my
spirit, in my soul, and what i love. Stop the self hate, and be who you want to be, and stop this " one drop
rule" ***, its so 1950's u silly ***!
awwyeah123: at least i got a mammie, that aint strung out, or under somebody else's man. Think on that
simpleton,....i got plenty more where that come from
dont h8 on the yellas..#thickyellasdoitbetta# POW
SO HEARD THE PRODUCT SUCKS ANYWAYZ.
Who cares it's not that serious
im through arguing ONLINE with silly *** I DO NOT KNOW, the simple moral of the story
is,....................CD is owned by a black WOMAN that is doing the *** thing!!! stop flappin ya trap online,
and get ya GROWN-WOMAN ON!!! MAKE THAT MONEY, so you can be successful too. I know i
am,....:::::bounces through the door, waving goodbye:::::: see ya, smoooooches luv u all!!lol
The three of them can get it!
There's plenty of black south Americans so of course you consider yourself black. What else would you be?
Seaki you can barely type and you lack basic grammar and punctuation LOL. Go back to whatever brazilian slum you crawled out of and while you're at it make sure you become a legal citizen. Excuse me while I live my life while you live on the internet. I see why you're mad though! Say hi to your MAMMIE for me! LOL deuces!
The argument was over your rude comments towards blacks, not who she chose as models. Im in no way offended by her choosing women with different hair textures to show her products diversity. I still wouldn't use that ***. I only do Paul Mitchell.
Awwyeah, i knew i wasn't the only one who saw through that *** Lmao.
*** I just bought hair milk. Politicians/sellers of products/preachers and their ilk ALWAYS take the
black consumer/constituent for granted. I don't mind her choice in models, I think Cassie and Solange
are adorable. Selita- I guess she's an acquired taste cuz she looks a lil interplanetary to me.
But now I wonder how many brown models got turned down to portray this more acceptable form of
beauty....like what? Black girls have been 'in' now they are back out again? lmao.
......“They will serve as cultural ambassadors in bringing forth this acceptance that the definition of
beauty is now colorless"
Did I miss something? What is new here? The ideal 'definition of beauty has ALWAYS been..well....
Seems If you are truly celebrating the beauty of ALL, it seems it would call for a 'COLORFUL'
celebration, but hey, give the people what they want. Shame on us.
Mute point bcz CD products have fell way off from they first started, and costs way too much.
She looks inbetween planets o.0
I prefer Miss Jessie's CURLY BUTTERCREME anyway.
Yes, it is two mixed chicks whose grandma is Miss Jessie, but they, as far as I know, are not using
divisive ad campaigns like this one. I mean really, what is she saying to black women who supported her
before she turned into a national brand....
OK MTO. Who cares.
The product is about hair texture not skin color MTO...freakin morons!!
cassies looking crazy and solange looks crazier!
These women are all brown (or red). Light-skinned is Alicia Keys, Sanaa Lathan, Mowry twins, Paula Patton,
Nicole Ari Parker, Lauren London, etc.
They look black to me...Lol. Fine too.
They could have chosen someone besides Ebanks, though. She sucks even worse than Cassie. For a
"model" she is not cute, has really obvious breast implants, and is little more than an opportunistic
Why do people keep giving her *** at the limelight?
Akimbo you just named women the same shade if not darker than these women. If you can't pass for white YOURE DARK! Hispanics aren't even light. They considered brown. Why is it us always worrying about light and dark when were mostly dark. Embrace your beauty and stfu.
Follow ya boi
POLYETHNIC???? wtf is that...who is this woman to just come up with a new name or term for mixed ethnic black folks...
i dont use carol's or her daughter's products but to the ones that do and yall offended by this then boycott they products
Carol's is mostly known for their hair care products. What they are showing are
different hair textures. Stop hating yourselves people.
They could have had ONE CHOCOLATE sister displaying there HAIR texture. The creator of the hair products OWES her success to black women. If it wasn't for us she wouldn't be where she is now.
Chocolate sisters are not being respected. I love all skin tones and blacks come in all tones. They should have represented all skin tones. Not just one tone.
Yea that 'Polyethnic' word threw me too.
Really not impressed with CD products; have tried them over time and as others have already mentioned, you can get better products with better results for a cheaper price.
Fu*k em. Stop supporting establishments that don't support who you are.
Its 3 light skinned black women.. what's the big deal?
I think they did this on purpose. They knew this ad was going to raise eye brows and get people talking. This could be smart advertising or bad business move? If they get a lot of backlash then bad business move. If they get more businesss because of this contraversy then smart move.
This is not diversity in Black hair, maybe in for mixed and colored hair as they are advertising. But in hard economic times this kind of campaign/people are chosen.
Ha Ha!! Didn't I Just Speak On This?! I Don't Blame Them I Want To Hurl When I See Anything Dark. Dark Skin Is Not Attractive At All. Light Skin Is A Step In The Right Direction But I Would Prefer To See White Women Or Even Women Of Different Ethnicity Doing This, Plus It Would Have Been A Better Financial Move Too. This Is A Disgrace Anything Involving Our People Will Result In Bankruptcy. I Only Do Business With Whites I Love How My Life Has Changed Because Of It.
@Yogi - you are so right. If this were just about hair and any model would do!
topic is valid but this ain't hardly the place
..the Wisconsin demographic ran into that mind control money *** all hell broke out but its always been in our comm..its patterns not events
places like this adopt more than just a biz model..throw in the bs inherent in their teachers
I could care less as long as I can continue to buy this at a reasonable price @ HSN or in select stores I don't care who she get's to market her product. On the other hand she could have saved herself millions by not using celebrities like Mary,Jada or any of these others, because the scents speak for and sell themselves.
I never bought her products, and with all the comments about them being water down I wont even consider the idea now smh. Since when was solange light skin? if Cassies daddy is filippino than where does the black in her comes from because her mother looked mexican or asian to me? The other victoria secret model girl aint even a factor
then you all wondering why jamaicans wanna lighten there skin cause americans is pro light skin when it comes to selling things or being in the entertainment industry i love my skin color and im not lightening it or getting booty implants
MTO WHEN U GET YOUR OWN COMPANY U CAN HIRE WHO U LIKE IN THE MEANTIME...
You Are One Ugly Broad. If They Put That Picture On All Hennessy Bottles Or Alcohol Bottles In General F*uck Rehab You Would Make Everyone Want To Be Sober. Who The Hell Would Want To Buy That? Some People Should Banned From Showing Their Pictures!!
What A Disgrace. I Need To See A White Woman
OK I agree with some of the comments here. You are right it *** matter as BEAUTY comes in ALL shades and COLORS. HOWEVER, Why are BLACK PEOPLE ALWAYS the community that other MIXES of PEOPLE want to get good with? Why are we sooo excepting of the mixed races WHEN it comes to MANAGING or USING THEM TO SUPPORT BLACK PRODUCTS??? I NEVER EVER see WHITE MARKETS or PRODUCTS claiming other races or MIXED races as their own. Never see Asians or Arabs or Pakistani/Indians CLAIMING MIXED races as their OWN group. WHY do OUR RACE (african American) have a right to claim OTHERS?! Its like everybody
They STILL are using BLACK women... MTO is Ignorant as HEll...that is some willie
lynch BS ...its obvious they are trying to redefine the color of beauty meaning
from white woman to BLACK woman not light skin women ....lemmie guess a dark
skinn insecure sistah wrote this article.....SMH @ this type of nonsense...BLACK
@webstedd Thanks ma i knew you would have a strong opinion on this thread after reading about all the different ways you could and do wear your hair-
WANTS to claim "BLACK" or "MIXED WITH BLACK" ONLY when its of convienence. There are many mixed races of actresses in hollyweird such as Vanessa Hudgens, Wentworth (from Prison Break),Vin Diesel, Jack Johnson the Rock and others who AFTER having gotten in good with WHITE hollywood and mainstream media, NEVER ever claim the black race or "polyethnic" race or Blasian race. YET when these same stars are broke or struggling with their star power ALL OF A SUDDEN they claim black and like the self-loathing people we are we are quick to embrace them and put them as the new face of "black". Please.. l
@Blkhit20..maybe 70% of black women are single cause 70% of men ain't sh*t. NOTICE,
I left out 70% of BLACK men this time.
lol.. We as a people have grown content and complacent with playing second fiddle to any and everybody. Let Vanessa Hudgens or Wentworth Miller try to claim Caucasian..lol please.. White American media got its mess so tight that when Mariah Carey was in France the people over at good old racist P.E>RE>Z HILTON tore her a new one. She was clearly NOT one of the THEM and they made that blatantly obvious. Our dumb behinds still trying to claim mixed or others like we got something to prove..please. We are still knee grows in most peoples eyes. Even when a thorough breed 100% African american like Beyonce does EVERYTHING in her power to alter her physical appearance to anything other than black, we quick to embrace this heifer as "natural" sista. Please lol
i thought Carol's daughter was for skin...but oh well.
And I thought Black folks started black skin and hair products to cater to all shades of black women? What a joke...she might as well had put Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman in the ad. I'm a lighter brown woman and even I hate the way we treat each other based on skin color.
swtchocolatykizz- I agree. The media along with the marketing in this country tries its hardest to erase the beauty of the beautifully unique 100% African American woman. It is so pitiful. Guarantee CD was strong armed or persuaded by other coorporations to "black" down marketing advertisements to give it a more "diverse" approach. Something is always wrong with a product if it appeals to black people exclusively isn't it? smh
sarai_juelz- I'm light skin too and as a 100% African American woman this watered down version of supposedly Black products weans on my nerves. Nothing against mixed people though.. Its just why are we always the group of people others turn to when they can't fit into the mode of white or hispanic america
Sorry, but I'm brown, but unfortunately have that b.s. some
call GOOD hair. It's wavey and fine, but I can't do a damned
thing with it. Give me some super strong, so called .nappy'
hair ANY day of the week. WOMEN, no matter race, LOVE to
play with our hair and change it up. Super strong black
hair,'so-called nappy hair is the most versitile and healthy.
You can do ANYTHING with it. Just wash it and do your
thing. Don't need ANYBODYS b.s.. Product
@colorstruck if you wanna see white women go on a white website dummy... Black owned products dont do well anyway so who cares
can't we all just get along?
I dont like CD products they have sulfates and petroleum to things that are bad for hair and black hair in general.I use Shea Moisture products they are cheaper (9.99 each) and sold at target and walgreens. They are all natural
***, ain't that a blip?? Back in the day when she first started it was mostly dark skin, natural hair (lots of locksters) sisters that were giving props to her products. I stopped buying most of the stuff a way back. I always notice the marketing. I feel that if someone who doesn't look like me is on the print ads, it's not really for me. Hell, even a company like Avon has darker skinned sisters in its ads. Oh well, it's a light, bright damned near white world.
And, I don't have hard feelings toward anyone of mixed ethnicity or lighter skin, looser hair curl pattern. I just think that someone could have enough pride in being black as all other ethnicities do in their own. There are many people who have deep African roots and would appreciate that being celebrated in the beauty market as well.
DEAR MTO, SOLANGE KNOWLES iS MULTiRACiAL!
Carols daughter stuff is too *** HIGH, I use Miss Jessie's products, or Shea Butter products at Target.
Good point bellgrl. With Avon, Covergirl, Neutrogena, etc, using Gabby Union, Queen Latifah, Jessica White, etc. there really is no reason why an "ethnic"product c/*** us at least one dark full blooded AA Woman. Other non. ethnic brands use black folks of ALL shades. In the end black folks will end up buying with them *** whitey wins again. CD is dumb to not see the big picture.
Also the poster who stated Vin Diesel, The Rock, etc used their blackness to get ahead... That is too true. Blacks are the highest consumer market and most loyal. Politicians, actors, clothing designers all know this *** once they use us to gain notariety, they drop us, talk about us *** even tell us not to purchase their ish ( tommy hillfiger, crystal champagne). But u know what...we dont listen. Look how we all make mto rich (im guilty), *** they plant the seed of hatred amongst our people.
@ Dennis_Knows, YoungMoneyGirl223, PrettyGirlRock, ChgoKat, Webstedd, and rhirhimuse - You
all hit this thing on the head!
I understand what she its saying.for "poly
ethnic"individuals it may be hard to find
products that is good for their hair.maybe
african american products are to oily and
suave may not have enough oil. I get that.my
thing is that we seem to be placing all mixed
race people into a box.I've seen mixed race
kids with hair as coarse as ever and ive seen
them with fine hair.I've seen mixed people
who are darker than I am! Genetics are funny
cuz when you start mixing everything up u
never know what ur gonna get. If you are
trying to show diversity of mixed kids then do
so but who they have here is pr
But all of the women here are pretty much the same complexion.cassie doesn't look mixed at all to me, I've seen a lot if phillipinos who looked like her and were not mixed but whatever.i doubt her hair needs any special products than any other phillipino woman so I don't get her presence here
Just one---With that comment---Amen and thread closed! F*uck Carol and her
daughter! I walk pass that store in Clinton Hill Brooklyn and don't even bother to
look in! Overpriced, overrated and not worth my money or energy. Thank you!
Their products are wack anyway. I tried so many of their products and they are
overpriced for the little effect that they have.
This is why i dont buy celebrity endorsed products. New York Post busted the King Latifah for using revlon makeup in her limo instead of cover girl. Stars are struggling sales people. Why arent the stars donating to our community schools and using their public platform to speak on gun control neighborhood violence literacy and the future of Blacks. Black greedy stars are getting worst than greedy Jews. I make my own s.h.i.t
UMMMM DIDNT THEY START THAT HAIR PRODUCT LINE BCUZ THE LADY HAD BIRACIAL KIDS!!!! SMH SO I DONT SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!!
lol how u gone get mad at a brand that knows what they want to market to smh o well get the *** over it smh dont make no *** scense
Solange looks like a dang muppet! Poor child. Uggo!
SO THE *** WHAT IF THESE *** ARE NOT DARK OR BROWN SKINNED. SO THE *** WHAT IF THE MEDIA GLORIFY LIGHT SKINNED, BI-RACIAL OR WHITE PEOPLE. WHITE PEOPLE OWN THE *** MEDIA & THEY CAN SHOW WHAT THE *** THEY WANT. GET OVER IT & STOP *** WHINING. IT'S NOT THE MEDIA'S JOB TO BOOST UR *** SELF ESTEEM, IT'S YOUR PARENTS JOB...BLAME THEM NOT THE *** MEDIA. I WATCH THE MEDIA EVERY *** DAY & IT HASN'T DID *** TO MY SELF ESTEEM. STFU & DONT BUY THE PRODUCT.
Some of you are in denial, the racial barrier diving dark skin and light skinned blacks has been an ongoing issue in the black community for decades. This isn't the first instance where dark skinned black women were basically thrown under the bus, it happens everyday in films, music videos, billboards, just take a look around you! Society has been brainwashing us into believing that we aren't beautiful unless we're fair skinned with so called "good hair", so I'm trying to understand why some of you insist on calling those of us that see this for what it is ignorant. An ignorant person is someone who is unaware or uninformed of the obvious, and this is quite obvious!! If you continue to let these companies decide who you are we will never get ahead as a race, it is very necessary to bring issues like this to the attention of our own so that we know what an impact it has on the up and coming generation! Things like this is exactly the reason why you have black women out here bleaching their skin, because they have low self esteem and feel that they don't fit in!
Lol the only people who care about light skinned and dark skinned are black people.... You are still a ***.igger to white america..... Biracial... You.re still a ***.igger.... Look how they treat Obama and he's half white 2% rule.... Just love yourself as an individual and stop worrying about society and it's jacked up rules
Guess what? My hair is good and thick and it grows like grass--wouldn't have it no other way, brotha.
...outta all the *** that's facing our community and you nicca's get upset over this ***!!?? Wake ya sleeping azzez up!!!
Well, well, well!!! Bananas but just bcuz dey light in skinn doesn't mean dey r not black, however dey culdve put a darker tone or a 100% blackie up there..keke Palmer, brandy, Gabriel, someone of dat nice brown to darkskinn
However Selita Banks & Solange r busted!!! I dnt care... No cute
GIRL THE MEDIA AIN'T GONE NEVER CHANGE. FALSE *** HOPE. THE *** WHO CONTROL THE MEDIA HAVE NO ONE FORCING THEM TO CHANGE UNLESS YOU BELIEVE SOME HIGHER POWER IS GOING TO INTERVENE. CHANGE STARTS WITH LETTING GO OF FEAR & EMBRACING WHAT IS NATURAL OR REAL. SO I'MMA KEEP IT ONE HUNDRED. *** LIVE IN A STATE OF FEAR & THAT'S WHY THEY CAN'T MOVE AHEAD.
Hmmmm, I don't think its about the skin tone considering it's hair products. Besides, who cares if there light skin, if the product works, it works.
MTO ARE *** IDIOTS..THEY ARE SHOWING YOU 3 DIFFERENT HAIR TEXTURES...
for folks who insist this is about HAIR and not polyethnicity, last I checked hair follicles can't mark a
census form, she did mention the census right? If it was about hair and hair only, wtf does the census
have to do with it ?????
And 'redefining the color of beauty' --*scrolls up to look again*--
their hair COLORS are all the same. So who says this was only about hair????
dark skin black girls are really really attractive
I wont buy from them now
so , who cares ?
that's just like clothing lines having super skinny models .... it's just like how the "timberland" brand name is owned by the descendants of the people who started the kkk , but black people still go and wear it .....
man , i dont care....
im a light skinned girl, but i know plenty of dark-skinned girls with good hair ... soo ?
You can hate my opinion or you can like it. Dont care really what u think though. From a business perspective its a good move catering to mixed races because there are so many women like myself with mixed hair that it is hard to find hair products. Cant use black hair products which is sometimes too harsh. Cant use white girls shampoo and mouse that dries your hair out. The ad is targeting that market so Carols daughter used those types of models. I think Media takeout is taking this out of hand and wants to start a light skinned black skinned war and yall dummies feel for it.
I'm on Fire, "we're not saying use "only" darker women, we're saying "include" darker women. Essence uses a mixture of Black women so stop it I say.
and for those of you who are saying, "she's showing hair texture and they just all happened to be light skinned." Stop it I say....those hair textures come in all shades of brown...just admit it, Black companies think light is right.
sloange is very light skinned! how in the hell did any question come up about that? smh!
anywho, light skinned is any color within the BLACK/ AFRICAN AMERICAN RACE that is light brown to golden to red to pale in hue! there are many shades and hues in light skin and whats wrong with showcases the beauty of them all?
why does everytime a lighter skinned black is showcased we begin to hurt ourselves? what? are you saying that we should feel sorry for the darker person just because they are dark? geesh--- you *** be insecure about the fact that the world thinks light skin is prettier. do
I do wish that there were more naps in the pics too, since we are talking about natural hair.
MTO you have alot of nerve talking about another company being color struck. Yall are just as bad!!!! pay attention to your posts...look at how many folks you say are beautiful! the majority of them are light skinned with long hair. shame on you too.
They should have saved their marketing money to use on their horrible products instead of paying these women who probably don't even use CD. I really don't care who they use to advertise it, CD products suck and they are overpriced. This is coming from a Naptural PJ!!
Not every photo has to have a darkskinned model in it and not every photo has to have a lightskinned model. Now if we see a line up of every ad they put out and it appears this is what they do then I can see people boycotting. But I'm not going to jump to conclusions yet.
black or white Pantene has the best products anyway 87P lol
Why would the include Cassie's homewrecking classless *** to sell their products. Wat market r they trying to reach?? I'll never buyooks like some women who need to find themselves to me. No thanks Carol.
I am going to say this and let the issue go. I was born in Sao Paulo, raised in Louisiana most of my teen
life. As a designer I have been over most of this world, so I have witnessed Black Communities (women) in
Germany,Italy,Paris,Switzerland, you name it, there going to be a growing and flourishing black
community. African AMERICAN women are some of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL black women in the world,
compared to others, but looking at these comments, they are also very self conscience and lack self esteem.
Its a sad truth, this convo WOULD NOT happen in Europe, SouthAmerica (though there is racism)
This campaign makes me a little uncomfortable. I don't really like what they're trying to imply, and I think the way they've handled it is clumsy.I get that they want to embrace multiculturalism and that's fine, but there are darker-skinned mixed women that they could have used too. It sends the wrong message.
To keep it *** ,.....American, this whole convo "light is right" is so 1050"s, let it go,.....You are now
considered to be within the HIGHEST STANDARDS of beauty. Go to Italy, you will see more italian men
dating darker skin sistas, go to paris, the parisian men can not get enough of the chocolate, go to
germany, these men adore us, and find us exotic!!!!!! open your minds, there is a whole world out there
that finds ALL OF YOU BEAUTIFUL!!! GET OVER THIS "JIM CROW" BEHAVIOR AND OUTLOOK CONCERNING
YOUR SKINCOLOR,.......its hurting you, and noone else.
All that is excluded eventually becomes exclusive. America has yet to accept the dark skin, full lips, and kinky hair of black women. They dont make hair or skin care products for them. BET won't even advertise to their own race. No worries, it will all get back to the essence. I dont *** with Carols daughter products anyway. I dont care HOW they try to advertise that 'multi ethinic' ***, their products are no bueno certain types of hair. And they cost too *** much anyway. So f*ck em/.
We all know people need to let it go but they havent.... African Americans and their color complex and
reinforcing color complexes have already redefined black beauty for women. Who cares about Carols
Daughter add. The idolization and over worship of certain skin complexion and tones since the end of
Civil Rights has had its effect. We see it play out everyday with African Americans. It is now a widely
known fact. Its a FACT that color complex of the whiter the better is a wide spread problem with blacks.
Entertainment is the most damaging medium and is a way to spread the prejudice.
Do silly African American blacks ever ask themselve why out of all the groups in America.. Why are they
always the one begging pleading for acceptance. You dont see Asians or Latinos doing this. Why is it
black people are the ones begging pleading for multiculturalism even when its something that they are
promoting to a audience that is black? Carols daughters is a product in the Black section. I am not
saying other people use it but blacks are their demographic. LMAO it makes no sense Cassie?? What
nationality is Cassie she does say she is black just cause shes dating puff daddy..
@teufelstritt I'm with u on that one.
man our black society and community is getting really ugly! we have brown and dark skinnned beauties too! you have three light-skinned models and you call it "BLACK BEAUTY"? i don't think so. thats not redefining black beauty at all. they barely have any black in them any ways. (except for solange).
SERIOUSLY... when will genuinely black women get tired of black men putting the white woman's daughter on a pedestal and claiming she's us?
Ya'll need to understand that the controlling ownership and marketing director is just another color-struck black male sellout -- like every other joke in the music and advertising business. STOP SUPPORTING THEM UNTIL THEY START SUPPORTING YOU.
I cant believe its 2011 and we still havent put this *** to rest. Of course light skin is beautiful, so is carmel, chocolate, dark chocolate. Wake the *** up! Stop lettin white people sit back and watch us kill each other over skin color. Thats what Willie Lynch wanted. Ive seen alot of unattractive light skin people.
I was gonna say something, but it's not even worth it....some of yaul will never get it.
Maybe they meant "redefining the color of beauty" as in they're all BLACK and not
Wake up people. Turn on the TV and watch any black show, open any black run magazine, watch any video made by black people. Does it ever cross your mind that ALL of the black love interests just *happen* to be light/biracial -- without exception? WE ARE COLOR-STRUCK and it's embarrassing.
YOU WOULD NOT be arguing for people to *** up if all black basketball players, black male actors, etc had to look like Tiger Woods or Vin Deisel. Dark skinned women do NOT need to get checked on this matter because frankly they are right.
@natdigga: ALRIGHT UNCLE RUCKUS..LMAO.. CAN'T EVEN TAKE YOU FOR SERIOUS
Cassie is so pretty, but that Muppet Baby Solange and Selita's Eubanks bumblebee looking a$$es are not cute at all.
CD's explanation makes no sense. There are dark skin people who come from multiple
ethnicities. This statement is very ignorant and does the opposite of what they
say they are trying to promote.
CD's statement is very ignorant--as are many of these comments. There are many
dark skinned peoples of mixed race. People are so ignorant. It does the opposite
of what they are trying to do. Not to mention, we are so friggin backwards in this
country. Whoever was typing about the Italian and other european men who love dark
women--I can attest to that. Here in this country, we are still ignorant and have
to deal with this from people who are supposed to representing and speaking to us.
Sound like Carol Daughter has SOLD OUT... Typical...
well, of course the ignorant shine on this comment section when it becomes an
issue of race. ppl ugliness comes in all colors...TRUST! if this is the avenue
that CD want 2 take thats fine...i dont use their products anyway...i dont need
it. the melanin in my dark skin allows me 2 keep my money in my pocket. u cant put
that in a bottle but keep trying it may work 1 day (fingers crossed 4 u)1day a
famous rapper w/o a complex will big up the dark skinned sisters, then u *** 4
brain fans will follow like fly's 2 ***. till then, the real billionaires in
europe will luv us dark & lovelies up.#recognizedummy
all i can say is wow!!! want be buying any of her products!
that has really *** me off!
Im light. and I always been favored... I dont agree. thats y my group doing videos. and I wonna get all dark women in it. I may be doing what they do but the other way. which suck. but a video with dark sistas .. wow we havent seen that huh. smh I love dark skin.. but *** we even do it to r own race! smh
As a dark skinned woman, it is difficult enough to navigate the world as a consumer seeking out products and brands to identify with, having that very world impose a "norm" that doesn't meet your gaze in the mirror; But to seemingly find one in Carol's Daughter and then have them move away from a look that resembles yours feels like a betrayal. Moving forward, I am not sure where this position puts me as a consumer or if I will continue to patronize Carol’s Daughter.
