If we see an obese woman we'll quickly defend her saying she's "thick." Excessive fat in the rear and breast is still excessive fat. However it's shaped, a woman with a bmi that's considered obese is indeed obese. Facts only offend the ignorant. That's how I see it. For the record: Im a black female and never have been ashamed of it.
Using BMI, yes, nearly 8 out of 10 Black women are estimated to be overweight... but if I recall correctly, close behind them are also Mexican Americans, White men, and Black men (all around 7 out of 10 or greater). So I don't understand why the focus is on Black women when the same CDC study that says they're fat, also says other groups are nearly just as fat!
It should also be noted that using BMI to guage body fat in Blacks is considered to be less accurate, as they generally have more muscle mass. I've seen that proven to be true with a co-worker of mine, who I had considered overweight until a health fair... she had a lower body fat percentage than a fellow White and slim female co-worker.
