My mother had my hair braided with braid ext. from age 3 to 12 and I see nothing wrong with it. It was far less stress on my hair and when I got my natural hair done at 12, my hair was healthy thick and long.

Actually, my baby neice's hair wasn't growing in evenly so my sis began to put in weave braids. It helped it grow and didn't damage her hair at all. It all depends on how tight the braids are done and how you maintain it and also if you let the natural hair rest time to time. If the mother of this child was doing it for this purpose than I see nothing wrong. She could have wrapped it before going out, but hey, what can you do?

Ugggh, I had to comment. It's NOT about self hate! IT'S JUST FREAKIN BRAIDS! It's not glued or sewed in. It is common placed for kids to get braids. For all ya'll screaming "use a brush and grease" u must don;t have kids with tough hair! That's not the easiest thing to do. I have a full time job pull IM a full time student AND it's easier for my kid to have braids so we can get up and out the house at a decent time then so be it.
