: Barney’s New York dissed rapper Wiz Khalifah and his girlfriend Amber Rose . . . HARD!! Early last week, Wiz Khalifa spent $16,000 on shoes for Amber at the Beverly Hills boutique.
According to Radar Online, Amber took her family on a SHOPPING SPREE at Barneys, courtesy of Wiz "Make-It-Rain-TRICK" Khalifah. Shortly after dropping down 16K on women’s shoes for Amber and her family, Wiz headed up to the men’s department. Unfortunately, he was unrecognizable to the store’s employees who treated him like he was going to steal something.
A patron who claimed to be in the store at the same time as Amber and Wiz said:
“After his spending spree on the shoes, Wiz went up to the ultra expensive men’s department floor, but instead of rolling out the red carpet for him they refused to help the poor guy! Not only did they fail to recognize him they actually thought that that he was a thief and treated him like one! It was only when somebody pointed out to them who the guy actually was that they back-tracked somewhat.”After the snub, Wiz is said to have rejoined Amber and crew, and they continued SHOPPING, before leaving the store.

for one, it is barneys... you can't walk into that fabulous store looking like he looks. i would of ignored him too! it is called professionalism, look the part and you get it back. he never looks the part so, hey... barneys want all of their public relations to look great, no matter how much money a client/shopper is spending. To be honest, I don't blame them... I would of done the same thing if I owned a store, especially a fabulous one like Barneys.

When you shop in upscale stores like Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Neiman Marcus etc. You pretty much have to come in there like a fly dude/chick so that employees would give you customer service. But when you wearing hip hop apparel, they don't take you seriously especially when they are working off of commission. I go into those and was never profiled b/c im always on my fashion game. Wiz on the other hand needs a stylist. lol

Barney's is the type of store where you can't have too "urban" of a look (for lack of a better term). So, yes, they do profile people. Is it right? Absolutely not! But that is life. As someone else said, Barney's is o.***. Black people shop there all of the time.
However, even if you are dressed conservatively in a suit with pearls or diamond cuff links and have a lot of money, that is still not good enough in some of these places - if you are Black. Those are the places where we definitely need to stop spending our money.

Yeah. That isn't a shock at all. It's kind of sad how racist and judgmental white folks can be, especially the older ones. I remember John Legend, a very respectable guy and a good singer talked about how he experienced racism very recently. In fact he was driving in a certain neighborhood and some guy saw him and told him "he better get out because people like him weren't welcomed there." A lot of Black celebs get this treatment but most keep it to themselves knowing that's how 'those' people are. I swear the same thing happens to me as well . I usually go out well dressed and I do not look terrifying or like a bad person but people often think I am going to steal or that I am going to steal something just because I am Black. Even when I walk out after I paid. In fact, I get followed and watched all the time when I go to the store. No matter what you dress like or look like that will happen if you are a visible minority. It *** me off too, but I think they were just jealous of a man like Wiz Khalifa coming into the store able to afford whatever ever was there. They don't expect someone like him to be there. Maybe that's it. People I tell ya. SMH.

I don't see how Whites not wanting us to wear nice things and spend a load of cash makes African Americans insecure. Wouldn't it be the other way around? You act like whites are the only designers in America or the world. US has a lot of Black stylists, fashion designers, makeup artists, models, etc and the whites always need OUR people to show off and model in their clothing so it can sell. What you say doesn't make sense.It is like men in the past didn't want women to vote or work out of fear that we might turn out better than them. if we want to get to the top in life how would that mean we don't respect ourselves because they don't respect us? Maybe both Barney's and Khalifa learned a lesson here. 1) Don't be so quick to judge, and 2) it takes more than money to project a positive image. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to look the part. Collectively, Barney's other customers are spending way more that $16k. They're not going to let one scary-looking apple spoil the high-end shopping experience for whole barrel; they do have their other customers to think about.
Could just have been that, just like most stores, there've been cutbacks on employees. I was in Lowe's the other day, and had to go ask for help, after looking 15 minutes for my items. A few years ago, they'd get on my nerves trying to help me too much. Let's not make a boogeyman where there may not be one. We've got way too many serious problems. "Our unemployment rate is 25-30 percent. Let's get some folks into jr. college, and training programs. The pres. put the money there, take advantage of it.

The store workers carried Wiz because they saw a "young black man, who appears to look like he couldn't afford anything in Barney's and treated him like ***. What Wiz should have done was ask for management to let them know that he didn't appreciate the treatment he received when he was trying to get help and that he's a celebrity. Then returned all merchandise and took his money elsewhere.
