JaMichael Brown, was born at 9:05 a.m., he weighed 16 pounds, 1 ounce — about 4 pounds more than doctors predicted.DANG. Hope the baby is OK.The baby is the largest born at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Hospital officials believe he may be the largest baby ever born in Texas, but it will take several days of combing state records to make that announcement official.
“We’re just amazed,” Johnson said. “I can’t believe he’s that big. A lot of the baby clothes we bought for him will have to be returned. They’re already too small for him to wear.”
The baby also emerged with a full head of hair, and the newborn nursery didn’t have diapers big enough to fit him, she said.
JaMichael’s father said the nurses told him the baby is a size most infants don’t attain until they are between 3 and 6 months old.
JaMichael is Johnson’s fourth child. He joins older sisters who are 18, 16 and 10.
Johnson had gestational diabetes during her pregnancy, and JaMichael is spending his first few days of life in the neonatal intensive care unit in order to regulate his blood sugar. The baby otherwise seems to be basically healthy, she said.

She had gestational diabetes meaning, THE MOTHER had diabetes while she was pregnant. A lot of expectant moms become diabetic, it's just as common as Iron deficiency!! In all honesty, her weight maybe affected 2% of the baby's weight, if that!! And all that sugar is because she became diabetic!!! Her sugar levels were probably off the chart!!
I just had a baby he weighs that much at 4 1/2 months. My bf just had a baby that was born 10lbs and I thought that was a bit much. The baby had problems but is doing fine plus the baby will probably not have that much weight gain as it gets older in the next few months...and c-section had to be done...the baby prob had high bp along with the diabetes...
Everybody commenting on this story sound like real idiots, if you read it from the right source and not listen to everything MTO has to say. You'll be smart. The mother had Gestational diabetes, and the effects of that results in a large baby. SMH. I've been diabetic since I was 8yrs old, now 23 and my child was born at 9pounds. Note to self she is healthy and not obese. Get it together ppl. So quick to judge and don't know the story.
for the ones talkin sh*t about her eatin habits....... People with uncontrolled diabeties durin pregnancy babies are born larger becuz of da high blood sugar........ When the mothers blood sugar is high the baby will make more insulin and dat make the baby grow larger and faster then normal..... So stfu and stop talkin about a new born dam baby.... okay first of all we are not God so why you judging this woman for one. secondly the baby yes he is big I get that but we should be praying for them both. and what is the difference if he and the mother is black and she has diabetes yeah there are studies I know about how certain things are killing the blacks. but I knew some people that was white that had the same problem but you do not hear any one saying anything about them. we need to stop putting each other down and start lifting each one up and then if they do not understand or know what is good for them we need to show them in love not
On a brighter note: one of the largest babies, if not largest at his birth, in TX history was Herman Johnson. Who grew to be 6'8 350 and played LT at LSU, and I believe is (more than likely is) in the NFL. So if the kid grows up healthy and has a little athletic ability theres a job he'll qualifies for
For all the people that have something negative to say about the mother it doesnt matter how big she was or what she ate when she was pregnant she had diabetes which can cause a high birth weight... what does her color or the babies name have to do with anything??? It could have been a 30 year old white woman that was skinny would you have the same thoughts??? Well I draw the line when it comes to bad mouthing the kids wow who raised some of u ppl...happy my parents took extra time in the rearing dept....but considering how big the baby was I'm almost certain she didn't qualify for the traditional bikini cut & had to get the old school cut up/ down stomach... pray they both have a healthy recovery
i had to erase what i said about this woman, because it was purely hateful & i'm trying to refrain from making hateful comments about people even if they do ring true. however, i think it is totally self-involved that women eat foods that are high in sodium, sugar and caloric value when they are pregnant. at your prenatal checkups, the physician's even go as far as giving you a list of HEALTHY things to eat during your pregnancy...it's not fair to the baby that their little bodies have to be polluted with garbage while inside their mother's womb. you people in here are bogus if you think this
cont'd--woman was health conscious during her pregnancy. her baby being born this large was not some type of "freak of nature" incident nor was it a coicidence....you can flip the coin any way you like, but there isn't no denying the truth- this woman in all liklihood had poor eating habits while pregnant & this infant's massive birth weight was a product and a reflection of those unhealthy eating habits. he is a beautiful nonetheless, but let's just call a spade a spade. diabetes & high blood pressure are a black person's disease!

@ SweetestGirl Branu, its not entirely true about her eating unhealthy. Any woman can get gestational diabetes. And shes older, so shes higher risk. You cant automatically assume she ate unhealthy. I had gestational diabetes, but I didnt eat junk. I lost too much weight because I couldnt tolerate anything but fruits and veggies. And my son still came out huge.

There are a lot of idiots commenting. The mother being diagnosed with diabetes while pregnant doesn't have anything to do with her "eating sugar and carbs". Your body changes drastically when you are pregnant. Your hormones, insulin etc are elevated. No, the child will NOT be born diabetic because the mother is. My husband's mother found out she was diabetic while pregnant and ended up having a stillborn child because of it. It's a very dangerous situation, therefore, people *** be joking about it.
