In stereotypical fashion, you put Lance Gross in a box assuming that he maybe self-hating due to the women he dates. You did not factor in he may have a "connection" or things in common with the women he dates.
Preference and self-hating is two different things. You are assuming the worse this with every black man you see with light-skin sista. I don't deny self hating with black men and women, but I don't past judgement on every person I see either. (you really can't saying anything,if I don't know them)
You bringing up the question a person is color struck is just as counter-productive as a person who is color struck, beauty is beauty in all colors.
Maybe he does have self hatred. Maybe he was told growing up he was too dark. Women get the most hate for being dark, that I know but men get it too when they are as dark as Lance. He's gorgeous but to be honest I personally find him to be too dark for my taste. If black men can say it about black women then I can say it about them. I like dark skin but to a point. With human beings I find that anything extremely white and pale or anything extremely dark looks harsh to my eyes and I think thats how alot of people tend to look at it racial issues aside.

Kanga, I dont nessacarily see non blacks that like blacks tend to just like the very dark ones. In Cali I have seen white boys with every shade of black. I dont think the majority of black AMERICANS are dark skin at least not anymore. People say most are but very rarely do I see a black woman as dark as Bria Myles. Most of the black women I see are somewhere between Ciara and Kelly Rowlands color not too many much lighter and not too many much darker. And for some reason I see more dark skin black men than I do women. Dark skin is already starting to be breeded out. I dont think its the majority anymore. Africa may have more dark but also has all shades. Skin tone isnt always based on mixture either, sometimes its climate as well.

Opinion, i totally agree with your comment right above kangas. Growing up many people assumed that i was a light skinned black girl so i received the dirty looks and comments from very dark women. My closest friend since childhood was very fair and has dealt with the same. We were known by the black students as stuck up and wannanbe white because of our color, hair and non urban style. Malcolm x was also light skin and obviously proud to be black. To be honest most of the black people ive heard my entire life say dark is ugly or desperate to have mixed kids so they seek out white people are dark skin men AND women.
