: MediaTakeOut.com just received some TROUBLING news. 1980s R&B superstar Vesta Williams was found DEAD inside a Los Angeles hotel room.
Reports are still sketchy, but MediaTakeOut.com was told that Vesta and a gentleman CHECKED into the hotel together. Later in the evening, Vesta was found DEAD by a hotel chambermaid and the gentleman was NOT in the room..
Police were called to the scene and are conducting a FULL on investigation as to the cause and circumstances surrounding Vesta's death. Right now they are NEITHER confirming NOR ruling out FOUL PLAY.
We're going to KEEP THE PRESSURE on the LAPD to solve this case. They are known for NOT INVESTIGATING the death of Black people (including celebs). Developing . . ..
UPDATE: According to TMZ, Police found "pills" at the scene and so are investigating as a potential suicide. No explanation has been offered yet, as to WHO the gentleman who rented the hotel romwith Vesta.
For all you YOUNGSTERS wondering who VESTA WILLIAMS was, she made the below shong Congratulations
I grew up - literally grew up on Vesta's music! I don't care if this shows my age - f-- it! This is a terrible loss to the music industry. Soul music is all I know. And if you all ever seen the film called "Posse" with Mario Van Peebles - you'll see Vesta in it .
Rest her soul I am hoping it's not foul play :-( (Twitter @Super_Negra)

well mto... thak you for showing a link to her music for the ppl who didnt know of her.... and to the ones who did know her i share in your sadness, she was a personal acquaintance of mines and no we didnt speak daily, as with some of the other 80's singer's. i would just like to share this...... us the listeners can be so harsh and brutal to these all ready delicate souls. take a moment and think what it is a person is offering of them selves, to be musically gifted is that truly a gift within itself. Vesta was of that caliber. let us start by not speaking ill-mannered of our today's star for tomorrow will come and the roles do switch. we have seemed to tear down all the good woman, either over weight/drugs/fidelity and god knows fashion sense. lets stop and come together and say "sister i appreciate you"....
@joijoi02
Sorry you upset. But old girl was Bruce Willis's jumpoff (Vesta wrote & bragged about it) & tried to sleep her way to the top. Vesta was just a Chaka Khan - D rate clone. Vesta was never on Whitney Houston; Phyllis Hyman; Regina Belle or Anita Baker's level.
@LikeMeOrNot
No Negro made Whitney or anyone for that matter take drugs. Whitney wasn't a princess either.
*Be careful about what you bragg about in life because that's how many will remember you.
RIP

Very sad, that "TOP 1980's Singer" title is a bit far fetched, let's keep it real
Vesta Williams (March 18, 1963 â September 23, 2011) was an American R&B singer. Originally credited by her full name, she has sometimes been simply billed as Vesta since the 1990s. Although Williams never had any albums certified gold nor any Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, she scored six Top 10 hits on the US Billboard R&B chart - including a #2 hit - from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s.
That's so sad! I love her music. Im going to create a Vesta station on pandora 80s and 90s singers were real r&b artist. Mto I assume your writer of this story does not know the cause of death because it was never mentioned. Although it maybe murder there is still a cause of death. You guys always give 2% info.
POWER HOUSE VOICES RIP LADIES:
****VESTA WILLIAMS - According to reports Vesta was found dead in her California hotel room details of her death are still sketchy... The singer was responsible for hits like "Congratulations," and "Sweet, Sweet Love."
Most recently it was Vesta's dramatic weight loss that made headlines after she dropped over 100 pounds, from a size 26 to 6. Lately she had become an advocate for the prevention of childhood obesity.
Whether she was a "Chaka clone" or not..the lady's voice is/was LEGIONS better than 98% of the "singers" who came after her, INCLUDING OVERRATED Mariah Carey (who really CAN'T SING).
RIP Vesta.
BTW...Few know this, but, she DID sit down with TV One's UNSUNG and her special WILL be coming soon this year! So for all you TV One viewers, get ready....so sad it's going to air after her death though.
RIP to one of THE GREATEST BLACK FEMALE VOICES OF THE LAST 30 YEARS, BY FAR
SN: Yep, for all you stupid young kids who don't know (or BOTHER to know/learn) about the black artists, notably from the 1980s...She and Regina Belle had a well-publicized beef (at the time, circa 1986 - 1990). Vesta went on Video Soul around the time "Once Bitten Twice Shy" became a big hit and lashed out at Regina Belle's vocals LOL. It was hilarious, but that's just the kind of NO-NONSENSE, BLUNT woman Vesta was...and she had a *** good time too (always full of fun). I didn't know her personally but know OF her. Awesome times in music back then I think. Unlike the GARBAGE, BORING time it is now.
@ say_it_loud I so agree with you. I'm a true 80s babies to the heart and she is one who's songs you can listen to and it will take you back. What happen to the great music we had back then?? Oh, it was taken over by autotune, half nekid girls and gimicks. By gimicks I mean plastic surgery, clown clothes and no talent. RIP VESTA:-(. CHECK OUT BIPOLARSWEETHEART ON YOUTUBE.
Wow, this actually shocked me (when I read it on another site first MTO). I enjoyed her voice and some of her acting roles (she'd occasionally guest on Sister Sister as Lisa's friend during later seasons of the show). Her interviews were always sassy and humorous. filled with lots of laughs... just a fun and gregarious personality. Though she sung backup for Chaka and was often compared to her, I found her to be unique in her own right. I enjoyed her early body of music (my fave is Sweet, Sweet love) and I'll say R.I.P. Miss Vesta Williams.
I saw her on the Monique show as well, and I thought something was wrong then. People, even in the entertainment business are on drugs, and doing shady things. An LA Motel, hmmm. On Monique, she talked and sang like she was on something then. The song just didn't do what it had done in the past. She was really struggling to sing it.
RIP Vesta. True Talent Beautiful Voice. My mom used to play this song along with Anita Regina Stephanie Sade Whitney Phyllis's songs. very sad.
@THEONLYGOD you're the ONLY one here remembering her for that garbage you're pushing! please. We can care less who she sleep with. *at this time of her trajedy. Save the bs.
@PRETTYRICE same with you. you are going really hard with the bs stats. End of the day SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL voice talented & almost everyone LOVED that song "CONGRATULATIONS" so save it. LEt her RIP.
....No children---- It was Phyllis Hyman who committed suicide on June 30, 1995 by overdosing on pentobarbital and secobarbital in her New York City apartment--- for the few of you "no real music knowing infants" whom even know of Phyllis Hyman's past existence.
Vesta Williams died Thursday in EL Segundo, CA in a hotel room where several empty prescription pill bottles were found.
Authorities are stating that the death is being treated as either an accident or suicide, but NOT a homicide.
Both the writers and the loyal readers of MTO really need to make greater strides towards evolution....Artofwar.
@waterislife
Hey Faker!
How you doing? I haven't started pushing...yet. [clinching my Omn-sword]
I noticed you lol @shamako's 50cent comparison. You seem really hurt by the lost. (sarcasm)
Keep it real Candy...

@Kanga
You should know TheOnlyGod by now. Does Amy Winehouse rind-a-bell? (sligh-smile)
@IMSoooooQute
Vesta wrote a 'kiss-***-tell' BOOK and a SONG (not SHONG) about her & Bruce Willis. She put her own business out there instead of being notice for her music, Candy. Research it.
*Ex: Phyllis Hyman had a troubled life she rarely exposed to the public. She was known for mostly her great music. I read a biography about her: "Strength of a Woman" & I was stunned & moved. She is my personal favorite.

@soul109
I almost missed you 'PEON' i.e. your cowardly insult. Idiot? Really?! LOL! You know I can crush you so sit down.
First off... this happened in El Segundo which is nowhere near LAPD's area, so you can forget about LAPD's involvement or lack there of. Secondly, this happened in a town that has nearly no crime. Murders are unheard of here, and the only real crime we see is the occasional petty stuff. El Segundo PD would have said if the believed there was foul play. The police department as well as coroners investigators believe this to be a accidental overdose. If you knew anything about the city this happened you would know that if they thought there was even the littlest bit of foul play involved they would let the world know. El Segundo loves to make it on the news (its such a small town people call it Mayberry), had there been something more to this there would have been a huge press conference on Main St. with half the town there. MTO, you guys need to get your facts straight on your stories. I've been a fan of your site for a long time, but lately the stories seem to be more and more stretched, with more and more inaccurate information.
1.The hotel was ON El Segundo blvd near LAX not IN El Segundo- it was a very upscale corporate suite.The home she has had for many years was being remodeled. 2. No man was with her- the room was locked from the inside 3. She has NEVER even met Bruce Willis- she said so on BET. 4. It was not suicide- accidental overdose fom prescription pills.
RIP Vesta. Such a talented R&B singer who like many from that era are overlooked. I saw comments on Bruce Willis. She DID date Bruce Willis. Back in 87, the tabloids had a field day with it. She used to speak about it a lot. I remember reading Jet, other interviews about it as a kid. That's when Bruce had that Respect Yourself song and was trying to sing. There were rumors he dated June Pointer, too. Bruce back in the day, everybody wanted to date him. I think that's why their romance was such a fixture in all the gossip mags. She did have issue with Regina Belle. I don't remember why but both women were upset with each other. Unsung has an episode on her so sure all will have light shed on it. Otherwise, it's sad we're losing so many great voices. Back then, you had to bring it with your voice not your looks. Once the late 80s hit, that changed and it became about looks. If you never heard of her, youtube Once Bitten, Twice Shy or Sweet, Sweet Love. She was very outspoken, had a great voice. I wish music would have a renaissance of sorts where that sound would come back. In place of the stripper, buffoonery, autotune this generation has had brow beaten into their heads. She will be missed.
Last ***, Karel [Charles âKarelâ Bouley ], weekend radio host on KGO talk radio out of San Francisco gave Vesta a beautiful tribute. He was her publicist back in the day and a friend for life. Karel called Vesta a beautiful, extraordinarily gifted singer and kind person who was also a good mother to her child. He said she worked constantly in the biz providing back-up, songwriting and doing commercials, both jingles and voice over, and had just signed a new recording contract.
Karel admitted they did serious drugs together, but said she had stopped as far as he knew. He also said she used prescription drugs like a typical 53-year old woman--Premarin, Ambien, etc.-and said he knew because he saw them in her medicine cabinet. He hopes, he said, that it wasn't drugs but won't know until the toxicology reports come out. In any case, he asked, however she died, why should we look at her or anyone else as a lesser human being because of that?
As far as Bruce Willis, come on, *** happens between consenting adults. It's up to the involved individuals to decide if it's immoral.
Nancy Wilson once said that show biz is a very dirty business.
Many women and men have to give it up to get things going. It's a fact. Those who can't stomach that leave the biz. Most of us know this.
I think we forget that black entertainers, singers and artists serve as racial ambassadors, i.e. they represent us and give the world a face that it can relate to. The Michael Jacksons, the Duke Ellingtons, the Vestas of our world opened doors of goodwill for us all.
No matter what their flaws, we must respect and thank them for giving their lives for their art and for us.
