Until you change the 'Culture" and the priorities of the actual people who live there, no amount of Gov. assistance or program will improve the living conditions or the high crime rates. I grew up in Newark, NJ (Ferry Street) and seen firsthand how the Portuguese started to arrive, without knowing a single word of English or most without any schooling and in a matter of a few *** years, they completely transformed the Ironbound section of Newark into a little European Oasis with thriving businesses, cobbled streets and immaculate homes. So what is the difference? Why do the Portuguese come here and in a very *** time own beautiful homes and successful businesses? They work like mules that's why. 10-12 hours days in heavy construction and saving every penny. Now answer me this very simple question: Why is it that black Americans who are born here, know the language, and go to school are still 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations on welfare and food stamps and groups like the Portuguese get here and immediately prosper and become productive Americans?

Na, there are murders in Cincy just about every week. "whoever" said it was safe, its not.. I live in lexington, KY sometimes their news feeds get passed along to us... They have a big problem with the police up there.. It was a big riot in their hood a few years ago.. Black and Black crime just as high as it is in any other city on that list.

The stats are based on the frequency of violence versus size of the city. NY probably isn't on the list because its such a big city. I'm from Camden, NJ...and I can tell ya'll firsthand, that if Camden, NJ was the size of NY or Philly...we'd be worse than them. You notice how many small cities have made the list! If your city is only 10 sq miles, and it averages 3 homicides a week...imagine how bad it would be in that city if it were 100 sq miles!!! We (camden nj) take a position in the top 5 EVERY YEAR...smh!!

cleveland is not a rough city. Ohio is not rough on a whole. My mother was born there and I have been going all my life. I feel so much safer there than where I come from. You should be looking at these stats as a blueprint of how you're gonna make it better not as a congratulations ceremony. I've also been to some of these cities I know how some of them get down and some of them are so small everyone knows everyone personally including the police. Some people are committing crimes just so they can make this list and sometimes the police in these city let their prisoners out earlier just so they can commit a crime it's sick and it needs to be stopped. what's even sadder is they'll keep them locked up longer if they're caught selling drugs but let them out sooner if they murdered someone.

I was born and raised in Camden, my heart will always be with Camden. I agree with @***. I'm from Newark and it's so disappointing to watch the Portuguese community thrive over everyone else. It's disappointing because there are enough blacks and Hispanics in Newark to be just as successful. The Portuguese community is very family oriented even if they don't all share a common last name, they all show respect for one another. The black and the hispanic community is desperately in need of this type of unity in Newark. I don't give a *** what the media says about my city, I know we will make a change for the better someday.

Springfield is comprised of close communities and is rich in culture. Most of us know and care about each other because a large majority of the residents grew up here--like a big small town. I'd like to know where these statistics come from and what they are basing the list on. People should really be careful about statistics because they are not always accurate.
For instance, if twenty people in a bar make no more than $50,000 a year annually, the average annual salary would reflect an accurate number. But if, say, BILL GATES walked in (remember, he's one of the richest people in the world), "statistics" would make you believe those other twenty people are also incredibly wealthy when they're really not.

Atlanta is one of the biggest drug hubs in America but people don't think the city dangerous??? That's funny....

I LIVE IN INDIANAPOLIS NOW AND ITS WAAAAAAY MORE CRIME THAN TINY SMALL SUBURBAN VALLEJO!!! YOU CAN WALK AROUND VALLEJO AT 2:00 AM AND HERE CRICKETS!!!!! I GUESS WE GOT EM SCARED! LOL
Obviously, most of you dumb axxes probably never even been to any of these cities to be "shocked" why they are on the list, and you dont understand how "per capita" crime rates work anyway.
Per Capita = percentile. That means the smaller the population of a city, the more weight each individual crime holds. Example: 1 incident of crime in Macon, GA would make the crime rate jump higher than probably 3 crimes in Atlanta.
So yeah, there are larger cities with areas worse than most of the areas in the medium-sized towns, it's just that a larger % of some of these towns are ghetto, while some of the major cities at least have some upscale parts too.
If you've been to Macon you'd see it's almost 70% black and filled with project housing, liquor stores, and crimes on macon.com everyday for a city of 90,000-100,000 it's horrible. Same thing for Dayton Ohio, Jackson Mississippi, etc. There aint no "upscale" black hoods in Macon like there is in Atlanta.
Im from flint *** yea I moved this year..but u cant limit ignorance to a race, a gender, age, or city...the devil is busy in all our cities *** our country..majority of my fam lives there *** they arent trouble seekers..but I moved where I can give my kids a better opportunity to advance...*** yes im black *** im very well off now..im saddened to see once again my city made the top of the list...god deliver us from evil
Was crime in the black community this apparent before white folks introduce recreational drugs and police brutality into the community! Also, black people are not violent or hateful people. We began to change around the 1960's when the oppressors became to violent,in turn, we had to defend ourselves- any means necessary. But, before the 1960, we were peaceful people dating back to the history of man. White people,on the other hand, have *** history of true violence from the beginning of man through year 2011 in a larger scale. At least black people have a reason for being so violent because of what white people put them through for so many years;So my question to you-What is your excuse for destroying countries,cultures,and families for the past 1000 years? Let me guess,it was "GOD'S WILL" right! You have to look at history before you make comments! Black people and all minorities will rise up again because time will tell. Peaceful people trumps evil!
