Atlanta is still a cool city--- Great weather, low housing cost, major airports, plenty of jobs and probably more black culture than any other city in America, if not the world!
Moreover, with a recent tax credit past by our Legislature, Georgia, mostly Atlanta and Savannah, is third to only LA & NY to movie/tv production!!!
Unlike any other city in this country , our Mayors office, city council, police chief, fire chief, School Board, Transportation Board are run/managed by African-Americans!
Our metro region has nearly 2,000,000 Blacks - secondly only to NY!
Yes, we have crime (ever region does); yes we have a large *** population ( I think our slogan "too bz to hate" played a part) and Yes, our school system is a shambles (work-in progress).
Even with the aforementioned, you don't find people from Atlanta moving to other places!!!
Who are these people? I don't recognize too many. But then again, I don't really watch TV and I barely come on here.
Yes, all those facts about Atlanta are nice but seriously, there are other people in the world besides black people. I feel like Atlanta is its own little planet. People rushing to move there because it seems like a "good" place for black americans. Let's get real. One cannot move forward intelligently without interacting with other races and ethnicities. I lived in Atlanta last year and promptly moved back to NYC. There was no room for me to grow in Atlanta. I moved back here to NYC and although it took over a year to get back on my feet because its so competitive, I have a great job & a great life. And meeting all DIFFERENT types of great people. I'd only go back to Atlanta to visit...for a WEEKEND.

@Sindee, when i refer to "Atlanta", I'm speaking of the entire metro region - which includes, dekalb, gwinett, fulton, cobb, clayton, henry, douglas and many more! The ATLANTA REGION still has MORE black HOMEOWNERS than any other region; there are MORE black MILLIONAIRES in the REGION that any other place; and, the inside the city proper, the government is run by Blacks!
Now, if you or anyone else chooses to live in another city, where they will rent (NY & DC) for the rest of their lives, that's fine, too!

No, you CAN NOT move here with a high-school diploma, poor work history and bad credit, and think you are going to find a job paying $25.00 an hour! However, if you are an established professional - especially in the math, sciences, medical and business areas - there is room for your here!

Just because you live in another city doesn't necessarily mean you rent. And whoever chooses to do so, then that is their business. If i'm not mistaken, Atlanta also has some of the highest foreclosure rates in the country as well. Homeownership isn't always a good thing when you take on more debt than originally assumed.

We have the worlds busiest Airport... What the f.uck you think that means??? A lot of international and national business traffic comes through here every day... You might have a hard time trying to find a McDonald's job to work at but if you actually have a degree in a major field like Health, Business, Communications, etc you can find one....
@legamind, since when is $25.00 an hour a decent wage??? Especially for a professional person! I live in the DMV and most people do not rent! We buy homes in the suburbs, those who choose to rent and not commute live the city. If my husband and I could take our incomes with us we can probably by three homes in Atlanta. It's all the same, different areas have different cost of living, hence different salaries. You can do well as a black person anywhere just as long as you apply yourselves.
