Victor Cruz's father is Puerto Rican and Victor Cruz is very proud of his Puerto Rican heritage. The thing is, there wasn't really a "one drop rule" in Latin America. You could be mulatto, or mestizo and or a mix of both for the most part The whole identifying only as "Black" in Latin America didn't evolve the same way as it did here in the US, therefore. Latino-Americans are more inclined to accept their bi-racial or multi-racial ancestry, even though they look more "black" or "White" .I know a Latin chick, looks more like a white girl than anything, except she is mixed with Euro Afro and Indigenous. She refuses to call herself White because she looks more white than anything and will gladly explain her ancestry. I know a Dominican chick who is dark with Asian looking eyes and thick straight black hair and she identifies as mixed.

These comments take me back to the late 80's, early 90's growing up in New York. The AA chicks I used to hang with would say things like "she Puerto Rican/Dominican, can't you see how fine/long her hair is" and stuff like that. Especially if you were a color like Alicia Keys or Beyonce AND spoke Spanish, they didn't consider you Black unless you were dark and had the "coarse" hair. I guess that was the determining factor back then. Also in Latin America, bi-racial and multi-racials are considered just that, Bi-racials and multi-racial.
