@topic, while she looks nice for the club, this is not appropriate dress for a school function, one of the fundamental tenets of having class is knowing how to dress and conduct yourself accordingly for every occasion.
What in the world could she be possibly teaching the kids in that attire? She could wear a fitting suit or dress and looked just as nice, actually more beautiful because it would have been classy. We do not just teach kids with the words of our mouth but with our actions too.
Yea its excessive but black kids in high school dress like it's a fashion show everyday. Hair done nails done fresh kicks you name it. I'd probably want to show out too. You don't know what kind of high school that was. Rich schools got 16 year old kids dressing in designer clothes and driving expensive sweet 16 birthday gift cars.
The fact that many of you pointed out teens dress like that anyway is all the more reason she should've wore something more appropriate. She wasn't going to a show, she was talking to a gym full of students. All she's saying is if you dress like this you can be famous and have your pictures taken. The Truly Sad part of this story is that Ashanti was paid $20,000 for her appearance while Atlantic City High School has been forced to cut many school programs that students actually need.

This school probably doesn't have enough computers in their classrooms but waste 20 grand when a local black doctor would've showed up for FREE!!!! Wow, we MUST do better.

@Unified_1 My Mom was a school teacher in Camden NJ. You know how bad things are there but the BOE still wasted money on "guest" speakers. They have some simple minded people in charge of educating our children who believe pop culture can help them do their jobs. Things like this can only be a REWARD for performing well and not as encouragement for children who aren't. Atlantic City's graduation rate for 2012 is 68% btw.
What exactly was she speaking about is my question? I think fame goes to people heads because shes not famous or what I call a role model either. What does she do? I get that she wanted to look pretty or maybe even have a *** appeal but you can be sexy in anything...its all in how you rock it.
