What the hell ever. Republicans not in the area had every right to continue what they were doing - just as the *** Dems were continuing their lives. These people were given MANDATORY evacuations well prior to this storm. There was only one road leading in and out of one of the parishes, so they should have got on the first thing smoking and made way because with one way out there is no other alternative but to be trapped.
It wasn't even due to most (not all) not having means to get out. Many of them were quoted saying that since Katrina didn't affect them, they decided to purposely stay. I guess their simple *** didn't understand that while you are to learn from past storms, you don't predict the behavior of future ones.
I was in MS during Katrina and lost every possession I owned, but I am alive and kicking and doing VERY well for myself because I got the hell out the first time I was given warning. Can't save your home from looting (that is the other excuse I'm hearing a lot) if your house is under water or you're dead. I'm now again in the area on business and I'm seeing this unfold myself, and I'm seeing and hearing the simpleness of the people in the area.
Most in people this area are Republicans anyways (good!) --- so no worries, the people here won't blame the GOP for keeping on.
