I don't think E Murphy is a deadbeat. They were not in a relationship at the time of "getting down". It's not unusual and he had the right to wait until the baby was born for a paternity test. Mel went on the public rampage about it b/c she was jealous of his relationship with Tracy (which was brewing at the time he had a rendez vous with Mel). He should have strapped up! I'm not going to address anyone personally but I do have to agree with some and disagree with others. To say that because her collecting child support could be a lengthy process does not mean she doesn't have to fight for it! For everybody saying that she was a jumpoff is irrelevant but obviously Eddie was telling her and showing her that she was more than that. There was a time that they were talking about getting married and now all of a sudden everybody wants to judge her because she had a baby by him? First you have to look at the girls track record to know that she's not putting it all out there like that. I think Eddie should have to pay and take some responsiblity for the child he helped to create. ANY REAL MAN would take care of their kids. Melanie has taken responsiblity for her actions and has done everything for the child thus far and Eddie needs to pay up. He did everything in his power to deny that child and she even had to get a court order to make him take the DNA test. realwoman- I've wondered that as well. I know that in NY, even if it's partial custody, they will award one of the parties at least 51% custody so if the parent's aren't together, someone's always paying 100% child support (unless the parent's mutually agree otherwise and that rarely happens). So depending on the jurisdiction, I think in a lot of cases the men figure they gotta pay anyways, so why also have that responsibility. Especially celebrities, the mother basically turns into a full-time babysitter.
And, even though states like NY have stopped automatic award of children to mothers on the books, it's still basically enforced in reality. The mother has to usually be a straight up crack-head for the father to get full custody or she gives the father custody, and that ain't happening either b/c for many women the child support is their ONLY financial source---meal tickets.

It's amazing to me how many women feel like she should take a man's money because he "publicly humiliated" her. She publicly humiliated herself. Why should he, or any man for that matter, automatically claim her unborn child? How could he know that was his child?
I read a study that said close to 50% of men were raising children they thought were theirs but really weren't. 50%! Also, if you know anything about the law, you know that once you put your name on the birth cirtificate and accept responsibility as the father, it is next to impossible to refuse financial responsibility. That means you could have some woman getting you for child support for a child that everyone knows isn't yours. That's a *** shame. If I were a man, I wouldn't claim a child until a test said it was mine.
Spreading your legs only entitles you to money when you get paid to spread your legs. Both parents should support a child, but ladies...we really need to use our brains. Having a baby will not make anyone love you or want you or your baby. If anything, a baby turns a jump off into a liability. And who likes liabilities?

EVEN IF she told him he didn't have to use a condom, as a grownazzman, he should have said NO, give me a few mre seconds to get this on, then it's on. PUHLEEZE. i get so tired of hearing that 'trapped' comment. both people know how a baby is made so take the precaution to ensure one isn't. and with some of these comments, i see why there are so many *** in this community. some of you should man-up. and some of you ladies should woman-up.
