No Job ? Read this . Your name & education is the problem.
I use to be a manager in retail, and yeah we looked over "unique" and "overly ethnic" names. That was an order from the hrs and store manager.
****Btw, it wasn't racially motivated because people of all races were turned down. If they were white, the assumption was that they came from a overtly liberal home. "Flower" screams hippie apparently.*****
• The idea was that people with names like that typically aren't from great homes, which usually means a not so motivated person who doesn't respect authority.
•The only exception is if they were currently in college.
P.S: There were plenty of blacks working at our store. Especially in the front end, which was almost black only.
Like i said, race had nothing to do with it.
••• If your name wasn't apart of the norm and you didn't have an education pass high school, your application was looked over. ••••
~~Latinos of every race were the main ones denied over names that were hard to pronounce ~~
[[ It's kind of messed up, but its been said for the longest that what you name a child can make them or break them. ]]
:) Easy on the " R" word.
Change your name & get education.
Reading this made me feel better.
Kill the Budda
That's cool that where you worked practiced equal opportunity ignorance but there was a major study that revealed that applicants with ethnic sounding names of equivelent qualifications were less likely to even get interviewed much less hired.
@Kill_the_Budda : People has always judged a book by it's cover.
Image is everything , to some people
Kill the Budda
I know. My point was that judging someone based on a label they received as an infant has to be one of the dumbest "professional" practices ever.
Also, we should not be feeding in to the nonsense by feeling we should give our children European sounding names out of fear. I'm not saying u should name Ur son clevontavious or some *** like that but people should have the freedom to name their kids what they want. If u afraid that corporate America will discriminate based on a name, wait till they see their skin....
That's the truth . There are better nations to live in.
