June 11, 2012: Another weekend of *** in Chicago had claimed six lives and wounded dozens more as of Sunday evening, police said. The *** occurred from late Friday afternoon through Sunday across the city. About 40 people suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds in just 22 incidents during the weekend, according to a Tribune tally.

Two people were killed in *** from Saturday *** into Sunday morning. Police officials on Sunday were still compiling a list of confirmed *** and victims during the hectic *** period that saw officers in some districts racing from one *** to another.

One fatality, a 16-year-old boy, died after being *** on the porch of his Southwest Side home about 8 p.m. Saturday, police said. Joseph Briggs, of the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Also killed *** was Donnell Smith, 50, who was *** in the stomach about 2:20 a.m. Sunday in the 7500 block of South Drexel Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Smith, of the 8100 block of South Talman Avenue, was first taken to Jackson Park Hospital before being transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 10:11 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

Perhaps no district was busier *** than the Near West Side's Ogden District, where a total of 10 people were *** in two separate *** late Saturday into early Sunday.

In one incident, six people -- which included four victims younger than 20 --were wounded as they stood with a large group in the 3300 block of West Douglas Boulevard in the Lawndale neighborhood at about 2:15 a.m., police said.

One of the victims, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the buttocks and groin, police said.

The other victims, a 24-year-old man, a 16-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman, all suffered non-serious wounds. A 19-year-old man who suffered a graze wound to the head during the same attack showed up at a hospital several hours later.

Earlier Saturday, four people, including a 15-year-old boy, were wounded in a drive-by-*** in the 1300 block of South Avers Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood just before 11 p.m., police said.

All four victims, ages 15, 20, 21, and 25, were taken to area hospitals in good condition with gunshots to the legs, police said. The teen suffered only a graze wound, police said.

At about 3 a.m., police discovered a male victim with multiple gunshots to his leg and abdomen in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

While investigating that ***, police said two more *** victims from that scene showed up at Mount Sinai with non-serious wounds, police said.

In other weekend ***:

6:09 a.m. Sunday, two men were *** in the 2500 block of South Homan Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood, police said. One man was *** in the ankle and the other in the thigh. Their conditions were not known. 4:33 a.m. Sunday, two males, ages 34 and 19, were *** in the 2500 block of South Sawyer Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood, police said. The 19-year-old was *** twice in the back and was in critical condition at Mt. Sinai; the 34-year-old was *** in the stomach and was in serious condition at Stroger. 3:50 a.m. Sunday, a 36-year-old man was *** in the leg in the 1900 block of West Howard Street in the Rogers Park neighborhood, police said. He was in at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition has stabilized. 3:30 a.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old male was *** in the leg in the 1600 block of South Komensky Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said. He was in good condition at Stroger hospital. 2:07 a.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the 3400 block of West Lake Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. No other details were available. 10:27 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old man was wounded in the back by *** fired from a white car in the 7500 block of ***. Ridge Boulevard in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, police said. The victim ran from the scene to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was in good condition. 10:20 a.m. Saturday, Derrick Wilkerson, 21, of the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue, was *** while with his brother at 111th and Edbrooke Avenue. Wilkerson was pronounced dead at 11:10 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the medical examiner's office. 1 a.m. Saturday, Kenneth J. Jones, was *** and killed during a robbery in the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue. Jones of the 3800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. Jones was dead on the scene, according to the medical examiner's office. 5 p.m. Friday, Mario Jackson, 26, of the 5100 block of South Morgan Street, and Rashaun Stephany, 22, of the 1300 block of West 49th Street, were *** and killed in the 5100 block of South May Street, according to the medical examiner's office.
